So, to be clear, hundreds of millions of dollars of international trade per day is currently being paralyzed by ... 30 people. I just want to make sure I understand this.
P.S. Yes, we are an international laughingstock:
Once this is over, there absolutely needs to be some sort of Parliamentary inquiry to examine the painfully obvious complicity with the protesters of Canada's various arms of law enforcement; the video-taped incidents of cops giving thumbs up to protesters, high-fiving, openly encouraging them, bringing them coffee, directing them as to how to most efficiently get their jerry cans of fuel to their trucks, offering hot oil massages and handjobs out behind the bouncy castle ...
OK, I might be making that last one up, but you get the idea.

The investigation into this has to be a deep dive in numerous areas - ranging from the actions (inaction) of police to tracking down who precisely has been funding and directing this from behind the curtain.
IMO - most of the actual protestors on the ground are a bunch of numpties being used as "useful idiots" by the power brokers who are funding this thing. There's way too much money flowing into this for it to be truly "grassroots".
I disagree with the comment made by “American media”. There are countless stories of right wing protests being just allowed to happen. Not just the January 6th insurrection. Google Ammon Bundy and read how his family has illegally grazed his cattle on public land without paying for decades and itching has ever been done. And his family and friends once took over a federal government office building in “protest” for countless days and nothing was ever done. Look at the Charlottesville Nazi protests a few years back.
Much like the Ottawa situation, the American governments desire to crack down on protests is exclusively connected to their skin colour and politics. Violent white militants and nazis are given all the room in the world to cause havoc while BLM protestors are quickly met with the national guard.
And that doesn’t even address the media elephant in the room. While our national media has mostly catered to and pandered to these protestors, especially countless far-right “editorials” in national media like the National Post, they have Fox and OAN and even worse to push the lies/narrative that this is all good and peaceful people who just love freedom. Why do you want to take away freedom from people?
I agree with the need for a full investigation. Police foreknowledge, planning and tactics needs to be part of what they look into. I suspect they will find that Canadian local and provincial authorities erred on the side of caution and attempted de-escalation. On the balance, I'd rather have them err on that side than the other.
I don't really give a shit what American journalists, cops or politicians think about our approach to policing. I remember the same truculent yammering from the Yellow Vest crew when Idle No More last blocked the Mercier (bring in the SQ with teargas and bulldozers and shove the redskins into the St. Lawrence!); that's the summer American cities were burning, and I think the rednecks were envious of the drama. I really do prefer our approach here.
