Typical Liberal Double Standards

Uncouth, loud mouth Liberal MP Robert Thibault is again eating his foot. In this story he is now attacking Government Senate Leader Marjory LeBreton.

Senator Marjory LeBreton has served Canada for decades, she has worked with every single Conservative Prime Minister since John Diefenbaker, and she was personally attacked by an MP who should have known better.

Of course we all know what the reaction would be if a Conservative said that. It would be paraded on the MSM as further proof of knuckle dragging Conservatives wanting to put women "back in their place" and to stay pregnant and bare foot in the kitchen.

And what exactly is the issue here? Oh ...

OTTAWA - Liberal MP Robert Thibault is again being called on to retract and apologize for more controversial comments, this time in reference to Conservative Senator Marjory LeBreton.

In an article published in Monday's Hill Times, the Nova Scotia MP refers to the senior Tory, who is leader of the government in the Senate, as an idiot and says she "should go back to making tea for Brian Mulroney and stay out of serious people's business."

Now that's just plain rude. Or it would have been if Thibault wasn't absolutely correct, given this:

Hon. Yoine Goldstein: Honourable senators, my question is addressed to the Leader of the Government in the Senate, who spoke a few moments ago about some Canadians whose opinions are based on misinformation.

Is the leader aware that there is a Facebook page where over 40,000 Canadians have expressed their disapproval of this provision? Is the minister suggesting to this chamber and to Canada at large that 40,000 Canadians are misinformed?

Senator LeBreton: Honourable senators, I have been asked about Facebook before. I never look at Facebook because I do not understand the technology. I think the concept is dangerous.

Yes, Marjory ... Facebook dangerous. Bad technology. Mysterious technology. Scary, scary stuff. What an idiot.

And while Thibault might have been more diplomatic, I think it's safe to say that, in this age of Internet speed and information superhighways and Web 2.0 and wicked cool stuff like that, the last thing we need is an elected member of Parliament who's that butt-fuck stupid and clueless about something as popular as Facebook.

Now, would someone please walk Marjory over to her comfy chair, tuck her in and bring her a nice hot cup of tea? And, above all, just keep her out of the way. There are serious people trying to get stuff done.

AH, MY MISTAKE. As PSA points out in the comments (and as I already knew), LeBreton is currently not an elected member of Parliament. I simply misread the canada.com article, which reads (in part):

Thibault was blamed last week for making ageist comments when he said his Conservative rival in the West Nova riding he represents is trying to enter politics at an age when people start considering their retirement plans.

I misread that as thinking that the "Conservative rival" he was referring to was LeBreton. My bad.

LeBreton, however, is still as ignorant as a sack of hammers.
