I think CC sums it up pretty much.

The pro-censorship accusation is not very well-founded at all. Censorship (something I've always opposed) would have to involve something that occurs before something is expressed and that happens in all kinds of pernicious ways that really do limit political speech.

Of course, I'd go over and argue that at his blog, but I'm afraid he'd out me and post the coordinates of my workplace on his blog. Thus, I feel censored.

Aren't you doing the exact same sort of thing? Why are you so opposed to the idea of shutting down the Human Rights Commission tribunals anyway? What's so bad about people being able to speak their minds without fear of prosecution? Maybe the real issue here is that you just don't want anyone to be able to say anything you disagree with and since, for now, the Human Rights Commission seems to favor your politics you see no problem with them chastising those who are expressing beliefs you disagree with anyway.

You know, one day the Human Rights Commission may be controlled by those who think much differently than you. Would you still support them if they were controlled by religious fanatics who sought to silence and punish anyone who spoke out in favor of gay rights or gender equality? I'm guessing not. I think your support of these sorts of tactics is short sighted and completely ignores the possibility that this organizations power could one day be turned against you.

It's easy to support censorship when it's your opponents who are being muted. It's quite another matter when it's your own voice that's being silenced. If you support this sort of nonsense now, you may one day find yourself without any defenders when the worm finally turns and you find yourself hauled up before the Commission on charges of expressing 'incorrect' ideas.

If you think "it can't happen to me" then you need to study history a bit more and find out just how many progressives were (and are) persecuted by their governments for nothing more than just speaking out. Hell, you should honestly know that already. You should also know better than to support anything even remotely similar to a government established court that decides which ideas can and cannot be expressed in public. You should know these things but you don't. That tells me that you - and far too many others who *should* know better - simply haven't learned the lessons of history. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It's a sad thing that you seem so committed to make many of the same mistakes that have tainted our past. The saddest part, however, is that you actually seem proud of it.
