Too stupid to know they've been towel-snapped.

When in the course of human events, someone gets their ass handed to them on a platter, well, those are the kinds of smackdowns that should be recorded for posterity. Take this one from back in 1988 when, while debating Lloyd Bentsen, Republican imbecile Dan Quayle had the gall to compare himself to John F. Kennedy. In response, Bentsen quite simply ripped off Quayle's nads and held them up for display:

Now, regardless of what else happens after something like that, the important thing is that, if someone has just torn you a new orifice and humiliated you in public, you at least need to recognize that it happened. There may be no way to recover completely but, if you at least acknowledge what just happened, you might at least limit the damage.

Sadly, that wisdom is entirely lacking in that evil, worthless cocksucker currently hanging out at 24 Sussex Drive, Stephen Harper, based on the following exchange:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper appeared to have had enough of Dion's line of questioning about the competence of O'Connor, who had served previously as a general in Canada's military.

"The minister of National Defence is a veteran of the Canadian Forces," Harper said. "He has served this country courageously in uniform for 32 years and when the leader of the opposition is able to stand in uniform and serve his country then I'll care about his opinion."

Harper's stunning comment was greeted by cheers from his MPs while the Liberals jeered the prime minister.

Liberal MP Michael Ignatieff rose to ask the next question and pointed out that Harper had spent his entire adult life in academia or politics.

"Mr. Speaker, I can't remember the prime minister's service record," he said.

That prompted the prime minister to go on the attack against Ignatieff, a writer and academic who spent most of the previous 30 years living outside of Canada before returning to seek the Liberal leadership.

"It's true I've never served in the armed forces," the PM admitted. "I consider that an experience in my life that I've missed. But I can say, Mr. Speaker, that I've always worked and lived and paid my taxes in my country."

Ignatieff then rose to rebut Harper as Tory MPs shouted him down by heckling "Harvard. Harvard."

Where to even begin?

How about the unspeakable classlessness of someone who, publicly in the House of Commons, denigrates a member of the opposition for not having any military experience when he himself has none? And when that's pointed out, one would think the appropriate reaction would be to suddenly realize that you've just made an utter ass of yourself before the entire country and maybe, just maybe, you should sit the fuck down and shut up, and dwell on the fact that this is an embarrassment you should be forced to relive every day for the rest of your life.

Sadly, that just wouldn't be Stephen, would it, as he desperately tries to bulldoze his way through that unforgivable lack of common courtesy with:

"It's true I've never served in the armed forces," the PM admitted. "I consider that an experience in my life that I've missed."

Let me explain something to you, Steve, you ignorant sack of pus -- military service is not something that you "miss." It's not something that just pops by briefly while you were out and forgets to leave a note. Military service is something you explicitly and deliberately choose not to partake of. It's a decision you make consciously, not an unfortunate accident you look back on wistfully and wonder, "What if?".

Then, not having humiliated his species enough in a single one-minute span, Steve goes on to now question Ignatieff's domestic credentials, despite the fact that he personally parachuted in one Dianne Haskett from D.C. to run in London North Centre, after which, when she got her ass kicked, she vamoosed back to the U.S. and good riddance to that worthless bitch. Ignatieff, at least, even after he lost the Liberal leadership convention, stuck around and is taking his responsibilities seriously.

It's not that Stephen Harper is a mean-spirited, ignorant dumbass that's so galling. It's that he so thoroughly and completely embarrasses himself every time he opens his yap, but he's either too clueless or too classless to even realize that he's being slapped around the room. He's like Dan Quayle who, after having been eviscerated by Bentsen, can't muster any more of a comeback than something as infantile as, "Oh, yeah ... well ... you're ugly!"

This is our Prime Minister -- a man whose intellectual repartee never rises above the level of, "I know you are, but what am I?" God help us all, we're being governed by a six-year-old. And, Jesus Christ, does that dumbshit need a spanking in the worst way.

The part that makes me chuckle is that he effectively stood in the house and announced to the country that he does not have the skills to assess the performance of his own minister. If yu extend that to all the different ministries that he personnally has no experience with, which is practically all of them, he basically announced that he is completely in over his head and without the skills to actually do his job.

For once, I agree with Harper.

Annoyingly, I suspect he'd actually enjoy it.

I don't understand why youse guys think it's a problem that O'Conner doesn't communicate with the troops. Did Rumsfled ever listen to the troops? Do the troops always live in Canada?

So, if you've been working in any field for over thirty years, nobody can criticize you if you achieve dizzying heights of incompetence?

O'Conner is an imbecile and Harper is still a third-rate con-man, with a mean streak too big for him to do his shpiel properly.

Perhaps Harper regrets his youthful decision? It was no accident, but that does not preclude looking back "wistfully" years later and having regrets.

Are you on drugs? Harper never once did anything character-building when he was young, and it never occured to him to do so. He's a fratboy, for God's sakes. He probably spent his youth laughing at all the *losers* who went on Katimavik.

Excellent that you drew on the Quayle/Bentsen episode, CC. For one, it's very seminal...for me anyway. It was at that point that I realised that righwingers are simply...dumb.

This was a very *stupid" event for Harper. I guess the "smartest man in the room" is not holding up so well to a change of venue.

Ooh, a mind reader and Harper's personal life-long shadow! How special you must be!

And what the fuck is with this meme that politicians ought to have served in the military? Let's not import this goddamned hypocritical military-worship from the U.S. Stamp that into the ground right now.

It's perfectly fine to have done other things than be in the military, and go into politics in Canada. It's perfectly fine to be an atheist, and go into politics in Canada.

Unfortunately it also seems to be perfectly acceptable to a certain segment of the general public to be a hypocritical bullying moron, which is why we are (oh how I hope temporarily) stuck with Harper.

It doesn't matter why Harper didn't serve. All that matters is that, for whatever reason, he chose not to, so he has no standing to criticize anyone else on that score.

It really is that simple.

Wait.
Tory MPs shouted him down by heckling "Harvard. Harvard.

That just fucking says it all right there. They think that's an insult?

"Hooters. Hooters." is an insult.
"Harvard. Harvard." is not.

Do you have any information about Harper's character-building experiences from his youth? Check out his bio; the man never had a real job in his life.

Prat.

This is as obvious as breathing, but I'm still dismayed about how everything I hear or read about Parliament makes an unsupervised class of Grade Fours look civilised by comparision.
