... then it's hysterical.
Sadly, the CBC leads with the ridiculous over-sensationalization:
Authorities thwart 'chilling' bomb plot at New York airport
U.S. authorities arrested and charged three men and searched for a fourth suspect Saturday in an alleged plot that included blowing up fuel tanks and a pipeline line into New York's John F. Kennedy airport...
"The devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable," U.S. Attorney Roslynn Mauskopf told a news conference...
Mauskopf described the situation as "one of the most chilling plots imaginable.
Oooooooooo ... scary stuff. Luckily, the CBC quickly gets a grip and returns to reality:
Officials stressed there was no imminent threat to the airport since the plot never got past the planning stages and the suspects had not yet obtained any explosives.
And, as I had already explained back here, even Homeland Security admits that the attack was "not technically feasible" and that the plotters had been under observation for quite some time. But you know where all this is going, don't you? Of course you do.
First, there's reliable right-wing lap dog and stenographer Jonathan Strong, who's happy to report on anything you put in front of him, no matter how absurd:
Massive Terror Attack Foiled
US authorities have foiled another plot to commit a huge attack on New York's JFK Airport by Muslim extremists. Three people have been arrested and one more is being sought. Russell Defreitas, Kareem Ibrihim and Abdul Kadir have been arrested and the search is on for and Abdul Nur is still on the loose. Defreitas used to be a cargo worker at JFK and is believed to have "intimate" knowledge of the airport.
The plot was believed to be focused on jet fuel supplies going into the airport in order to cause a massive explosion. The airport was seen by Defreitas as economically and symbolically important to the United States. "Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States. To hit John F. Kennedy, wow .... They love John F. Kennedy like he’s the man .... If you hit that, this whole country will be in mourning. It’s like you can kill the man twice."(source)
Representative King from New York praised the cooperation between the NYPD and FBI to stop the attack before it took place. Several homegrown terror attacks have been broken up in recent years highlighting the danger that still exists. Fox News reported that terrorist "chatter" is at all time highs at present.
Oddly, Jonathan seems delighted to report on the most sensational aspects of the story, without once mentioning how unlikely the whole idea was, even from the very news piece he links to:
Police say the men never got their hands on explosives or funding and lacked the technical expertise to attack JFK airport's fuel tanks and underground pipeline.
Good boy, Jonathan -- that's a well-behaved, right-wing shill. Here's a biscuit.
And for sheer, demented, spittle-flecked, illiterate inanity, you can always count on Dr. Roy:
4 jihaids [sic] have been arrested. It is suspected that these 4 jihadis from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago wished to kill thousands at JFK Airport. Here is some of what the US Department of Justice is saying. The statement from the ring leader is chilling. He celebrates death and destruction. Have no doubt the war on terror must continue.
Congratulations to the US security forces who caught these jihaid [sic] killers.
Yes, you too can unwisely get your news regarding the Global War on Terror from someone who is incapable of spelling "jihadi" correctly more than once in a row.
I swear, Blogging Tory co-founder Stephen Taylor would be embarrassed by all of this, if he had any sense of shame left.
HAVING YOUR CAKE AND EATING IT TOO: Amazingly, over at halls of macadamia, Blogging Tory Neo Conservative recognizes the pattern:
Can some Islamo-friend please explain to me why none of these space cadets ever has a plan that goes any further than "burn the place down?"
By George, Neo, you've nailed it, haven't you? The common thread running through most of these shocking, horrifying, unthinkable Islamojihadifarian plots is that, almost without exception, they don't have even the slightest chance of succeeding since they're put together by a group of clueless dunces. But that's the beauty, isn't it?
Because, on the one hand, while it allows your Blogging Tory buddies to absolutely piss themselves in terror and screech endlessly about the swarthy, evil foreigners who want to do us harm, it allows you to simultaneously make fun of those same "terrorists" as being the dumbass, incompetent lamebrains that they are who probably couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel.
What a great scam -- two delightful propaganda points for the price of one. Life doesn't get much better than that, does it, Neo?

This reminds me of the supposed terror plot out of Florida, where the poor nutters hadn't even BEEN to Chicago.
The JFK plot is just so much nutter musing. Meanwhile, last month, there was a major bust of right-wing militia types. The feds even grabbed some illicit grenade launchers. And the media's reaction?
*CRICKETS*
On another point, Steve Gilliard is sorely missed. I would have LOVED his commentary on Bush's chest-pounding claim to be the president. Steve always predicted that Bush would leave the White House in a jacket that tied in the back. Pace brother....
seems to me that the jihaid(sic) monsters are way behind on points when it comes to mayhem. the high school and college kids are racking up a count. and thanks be to jeebus that we be fighting them over there so they don't follow us home. think of all the reporters' children that are being saved at this very minute.
cheers calugg, my sentiments exactly.
"Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States."
Just imagine how much more hurtful it would be to hit that airport had it been named after a Republican!
