Happiness is a warm gun.

At least in Mesopotamia West.

Shorter Frank: If that poor woman in Merritt, BC, had been armed like I suggest here, we wouldn’t be talking about this senseless tragedy today. Since she wasn’t, I’m now able to use the horrific deaths of her three children to push my "everybody should have a gun because I say so" agenda.

Afterthoughts. I realize this kind of defeats Frank's whole "bust a cap in yo ass, suckah" argument but is he aware that Ms. Clarke wasn’t actually present in the home when her children were killed? I’m just sayin’.

That white balding ladies' man would likely freeze and get brown pants if ever someone came at him with a gun...

I think we should have more guns to defend ourselves against whiteys like Frank.
They look, smell and act funny. My god they scare the children.
If one comes across my properties I'm just going to blow them away and then ask questions - you know what I mean...
And that Gawd it's my right to have a big gun...

Dams down with balding old stupid whitey...

Oh, yes. Great idea. Give the panic-stricken more guns. That will certainly put a dent in our long-declining murder rate, which by declining, is getting worse. Or something...

Should anyone bother asking Frank whether he's aware of the situation Lulu mentions in the aftertought?

On the news last night they spoke to a local sporting/firearms store employee, who'd witnessed the father and daughter shopping the store just hours before the murders. Said they were talking and smiling to each other. The entire community and law enforcement locals missed what was about to happen. I'm sure blaming the mother for not adequately protecting her children is helpful to the situation.

I just love the way Mr. Mess presumes the mother had the money to be buying weaponry and licenses and safeguards as he proclaims should be had by every hausfrau. Lessons on how to actually shoot said valuables have also been left by the wayside. (it all seems secondary to his ability to actually name weapons)

And on a social front, last I heard, it's not 'women' (that vast homogenous group of X2erminaphobes) who frown on arming themselves to the teeth, it's the silly Canadian legal system that thinks adhoc armed vigilanteism is a no-no. The nerve.

But hey, I'm sure he could easily pull the trigger on a spousal unit ranting and raving at him...and hit what he's aiming at. Apparently, it's a guy thing. And he's a guy. A manly guy. Really.

That mindset...

Every crime that happens, to them could be avoided, if only everyone owned a gun...

Google "3 year old shot".

A 3 year old girl found a gun in her parents bedroom, and shot herself in the head. I haven't been able to find out about her condition. This was very recent.

Another three year old found a gun in the home where she was being babysat, and shot a boy, aged six.

Again, a 3 year old found a gun in a laundry hamper and accidentally shot a family friend who died.

Not all the guns involved are illegal.

I wasn't trying to be amusing, sorry.

Pale - I understood your point but it will be missing by people like Frank.
He'd say you need a bigger gun so that the trigger is harder for the 3 year old to pull...

Tragic as all of these things are, the solution isn't ban all guns... Those weapons didn't appear by magic or fall out of the sky. All of these events could have been avoided by the adults who owned the guns acting responsibly with them. It doesn't take a high IQ to know not leave a gun in a freaking hamper. It also doesn't take a high IQ to teach your kids from a young age that guns aren't toys. Kids, when left to their own devices will get into everything that isn't locked or nailed down. That's part of their nature being children. Since you can't change the nature of children it's up to the adults to modify their behavior. Because presumably adults have the capability to analyze the situation and realize that if they just leave a gun lying around someone might accidentally be shot with it. Children aren't logical or responsible, that's why we don't let them make major life decisions without their parents. Why should the situation of owning a lethal weapon be any different.

I'm not against people having guns. I'm against stupid, ignorant, irresponsible people having lethal weapons.

"I wasn't trying to be amusing"

i realize that your weren't. i'm not making light of the stories; simply using your search key words to further cc's observation wrt ms. clarke's absence during the incident mentioned.

in his film bowling for columbinemichael moore tells of a similar incident, in which a boy brought a found gun to school and ultimately killed a classmate. frank's solution of "more guns" would seem rather counter-intuitive in that situation. in short: no, "more guns" is not a solution.

Okay, this guy is a complete moron. He says, "There was a restraining order against the father. He was not supposed to be in Merritt at all, certainly not in the home. Had the mother been armed, he would never have gained entry in the first place." in reply to someone questioning how having a gun would have helped since she wasn't home at the time.

Buh? I think he thinks the gun would have been on guard, fully aware of the restraining order (which only applied if the guy had been drinking), and would have shot him on sight after administering a breathalyzer.
