Blogging Tory Brandon Langhjelm gets his Incredible Hulk Underoos in a bunch thusly:
Sickening
That's the only way to describe [Henry Morgentaler receiving the Order of Canada]. I can only hope the PMO had nothing to do with it.
And courtesy of pretty much every media outlet in this galactic quadrant for the last 24 hours or so:
The Harper government was quick to distance itself from the announcement that Henry Morgentaler, the controversial abortion doctor who changed the face of health care in the country, was named on Tuesday to the Order of Canada.
The Tories, no doubt sensing a brewing backlash from their conservative base, issued a brief response outlining how the appointment process has nothing to do with the government.
“The Conservative government is not involved in either deliberations or decisions with respect to which individuals are appointed to the Order of Canada,” the PMO statement said.
Some advice, Brandon: Put brain in gear before applying fingers to keyboard. It always works out better that way.

Don't forget:
"However, the advisory council does include the deputy minister of Canadian Heritage and the Clerk of the Privy Council, the department that reports to Stephen Harper."
Yep, you should have taken your own advice here CC. ;)
I wouldn't let Harper and the Cons off the hook quite so easily. Certainly not just for the sake of playing "Gotcha!" with some dope like Brandon.
Um ... kids? My point -- which you seem to have missed -- was that whether or not the PMO's office had anything to do with this was easily available on the Intertoobz to anyone who was willing to invest the 12 seconds it took to look for it.
Are we good here? Terrific. Movin' on, then ...
Did Harper think his remarks would do him any good? I doubt that his pusillanimous behaviour won him any votes from any side of the issue.
CC — I got your point, I just think you traded off the better opportunity of skewering Harper for his hypocritical mendacity in favour of taking an easy poke at a slackwit like Brandon for being lazy.
