A groundswell of protest I'd like to see.

Blogging Tory Mark Peters will decide if you deserve to be Canadian:

Omar Khadr is not Canadian

Everyone -- from Romeo Dallaire to Bob Rae to Matt Good to whomever -- needs to stop referring to Omar Khadr as a Canadian. He isn't. Even mentioning his name in the same sentence as 'Canadian' is to denigrate the title.

Quite so, Mark. And in the spirit of the recent Order of Canada awarded to Dr. Henry Morgentaler which caused several ignorant wanks to return their Order as a symbol of protest, let me be the first to encourage you to renounce your Canadian citizenship in disgust, said citizenship now being tarnished beyond repair and clearly something you would not want to associate with.

P.S. I'm not going to ask Mark to rush into this. That last sentence was fairly long with some complicated words, so let's cut him some slack. We'll check back in a few days.

Bad:

Canadian citizen, captured while a minor, held without charge for six years, charged in illegal court with dubious evidence against him.

Good:

Former Canadian citizen (citizenship renounced), charged and tried in criminal court, found guilty, serving sentence after appeals exhausted.

If only Conrad had darker skin, and they'd worked "terrorism" into the charges. These drooling morons would have flayed him alive.

Omar Kadhr passed the same rigorous entrance examination for Canadian citizenship that I did.

He was born here.

There aren't varying categories of citizenship.

Though I suppose we could create a lower tier of citizenship for right-wing scuzzballs who denigrate our institutions and our values on a daily basis.

Then they can all move to the USA, get cancer, and die in agony under a bridge because they can't afford healthcare.

Morons.

Mark Peters: traitorous Christo-fascist. Smile proudly, Stephen Taylor.

I wish he could renounce his Canadian citizenship, but I believe he has to have another one; Canada (rightly) rejects the concept of stateless people.

Give Harper time. He'll get to it.

Hey now... we got plenty of our own right wing douchebags. We don't need to import them from other counties.

How about we create a nice 'free speech zone' for them on Frenchman's Island or something. Or maybe on one of those atols the US used to test nukes on back in the day.

Regular readers of this blog know that I alway try to be helpful.

1. In the United States we have this rule, attributed to former president Abraham Lincoln, that you can't fool all of the people all of the time. The American people are ready to cash in Dear Leader's chips. Your man Mark is going to feel more comfortable with Stephen Harper than Barak Obama.

2. There is however a place for Mark — the largest colony left in the British Empire, where the wife of the First Minister remarked on the wireless the other day that the duty of Government is to "uphold God's law." http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/0718/1216330999721.html

3. Can we arrange a going-away/bon voyage party for Mark?

I think good old American ingenuity can construct a space for these fright wingers that would simulate the reality they want. Simulated well enough that they would never know they are actually isolated from the real world. You know, some sort of post nuclear war bunker scenario where the radio is broken, all the brown people are dead and they only have their local WoW shard?
