I wouldn't normally, but it's my birthday tomorrow.

Sheena ain't no progressive
Been doing some blogging for the All Spin Zone as well as my own livejournal. I thought I might branch out a bit from 'play' blogging on livejournal because there's so much stupid and so few hammers.

Sheena's a libertarian Kevron (what kind of name is that anyway?). As such, she doesn't see herself as a progressive. That is, she's a rabid capitalist who thinks the so-called progressives are too prone to legislating morality. Libertarianism is the new black so you should read up on it. I'm a progressive but I tend to agree that progressives with time on their hands tend to legislate morality. My blog is here:The Internationalist. It's mostly self-indulgent navel gazing with some liberal perspectives.

i'm well versed, having known more than a few in my lifetime. i think of them more as "the new anarchist". perhaps they should read up on the notion that from chaos comes order, despite best efforts (and maybe read up on the other notion, "the devil you know").

Is the above a statement from a visitor from another planet? It has been my experience that conservatives of all stripes, Taliban, American Taliban or evangelic X-tians and the Roman Catholic Church, to name just three, seem MOST interested in what everybody else is doing and therefore imposing moral strictures on others.
Generally, true progressives think morals are a personal issue and only feel society should be involved when a person's behaviour effects other people excepting consenting adults.
Libertarianism is very big on individual freedoms (except abortion or homosexuality) and the magical hand of the "free market" which can sort out all the irrelevant crap. Libertarians tend to not agree with interventionist foreign policy, but also tend to not believe in evolutionary theory. They are a funny flock of ducks and Congressman Ron Paul is a classic example of a Libertarian.
By the way pimpin' my joint it is:

So you're calling her a progressive, a libertarian or a fuckhead? And you're doing it because you think progressive is straightforward? That's very funny. I agree with her, libertarianism is a strange bird: pro-gay, pro-choice, pro-capitalism, not so easy to pigeonhole. A lot of libertarians think of themselves as progressive. They're wrong, but they do (social progress is of a piece with economic progress). You and Sheena should kiss and make up though. She's a good egg.
That is, IMHO, libertarians are wrong *because* social progress is of a piece with economic progress, you can't have one without the other.
