Just ‘cause …
After all, what could be more Canada Dayish than a little Tragically Hip? Your fave Canadian bands in the comments, boys and girls.
Oooooh ... I do luuuurrrrvvv Blue Rodeo. Thanks for the suggestion, Dr. Frink.
And now that the kids have had their say, let CC enlighten you:
You're welcome.
Blech ... CC, that's awful. Here's a little 54-40 just for KEv to clear the musical palate.

Well, I love the hip, but I've been spending the last hour finding Stompin' Tom songs on Youtube...
So lets add Stompin Tom and Triumph to the list.
Delerium :P
Some samples.. (should have included this in the original post haha!
Blue Rodeo, Rheostatics, Neil Young, 54-40, Rush, D.O.A., NoMeansNo, The Guess Who, Sloan, The Odds, Pointed Sticks, Leonard Cohen, The Band, Max Webster, Ian & Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, Skinny Puppy... just a few off the top of my head.
Pal, I used to play hockey with Rhys. ;-)
Excellent BR choice, LuLu. Cuddy does write some very sweet ballads, and 5 Days in May is probably my favourite Blue Rodeo disc.
And your favourite Odds song? Mine's a toss-up between "Break the Bed" and "The Last Drink" ... which is delightfully bent.
Barenaked Ladies, Beau Dommage, Harmonium, Cano, Blue Rodeo and Eight Seconds (which, ironically, ended up being the length of the one-hit wonder's career).
Stan Rogers, Joni Mitchell, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Leonard Cohen, Gilles Vigneault, Robert Charlebois, Lorraine Segato, Sloan, Bran Van 3000, The Weakerthans, Arcade Fire, etc.
Canada's music scene is tops.
errrr... 5 Days in July is the disc, 5 Days in May is the song.
Yeah, Break The Bed is a good one. A Little Number is another. But I've always been a softie for this one.
HARLEQUIN!!!!
Spirit of The West, Crash Test Dummies, Cohen.
54-40. the canadian rem. green album was a staple of college rock in the late '80s.
btw, does shatner count?

Some oldies
Crowbar
Sweeney Todd
Lighthouse
The Box
Doug and the Slugs
Rough Trade
So many to choose from, but the first that come to mind are the Weakerthans, Copyright, Stars, Art Bergmann, 54-40, Sloan. And for something new and relatively unheard, the Parlour Steps, from Vancouver.
After the original Star Trek was canceled, Shatner was seen doing commercials for Loblaws.
"Loblaws, where the price is right.
But by gosh, the price is right!"
But he didn't sing...
oh, he sings, baby. he sings.

No one disses Kenny Shields, bucko.
Who's Kenny Shields?
I'll have to admit I do know who Kenny Shields is. Can't say I was ever much of a Streetheart fan, or fan of that era of rawk (I was otherwise preoccupied at the time with louder, faster, denser, uglier) but Spider Sinnaeve was always a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine as a bass player.
Gilles Vigneault graciously permitted me to use some of his lyrics in my first novel. It would not have been the same book without them; the whole book turned on them. Quand vous mourrez de nos amours is a haunting and beautiful song. Kudos BY for mentioning him.
Also the Weakerthans and the Stars, hell yeah.
My two favorite Canadian bands are easily Strapping Young Lad and Quo Vadis.
