Not only does Snopes blow this email away, but they also provide emails received by the site from other soldiers in Afghanistan saying that Obama met with the troops. As a NY Daily News blog points out, the fact that the supposed poster is said to be in the Air Force, or was it the USMC or maybe the Army .... might, just maybe is the first sign that this email was turned out by some Roveian acolyte in the proverbial Cheetos-filled basement alcove.

CC, just to inform: as a serving member of the U.S. Navy I am allowed to write whatever the hell I want using my personal computer. Writing on political issues using a government/military computer or network is an entirely different set of rules however. As well as writing/speaking on said issues in uniform or as a representative of the military. But, the story is bullshit either way.

Something the Imperium might want to reconsider, as it's becoming an issue of diminishing returns, as far as we furriners are concerned, in any case.

I think, at the very least, serving members should not be allowed to post anonymously/pseudonymously, as they can lay claim to information that is not verifiable.

Posting in such manner is protected by the 1st Amendment (down here). And no, serving members do not sign away their Constitutional rights when they join. In fact they pretty much only swear to "Uphold and defend the Constitution"; something GWB does as well. If he isn't guilty of breaking that oath, then it's a free-for-all down here. Sorry, free-for-the rich and mighty. Oh yeah, it is. Can't wait to move up north.
