What Did Eisenhower Mean When He Warned of a Military Industrial Complex? Take a Look at the Carlyle Group.

A BUZZFLASH INTERVIEW

With Dan Briody, Author of "The Iron Triangle: Inside the Secret World of the Carlyle Group"

They are at the epicenter of the military-industrial-complex-Bush-Cheney-crony-capitalism administration. The Carlyle Group is the model example of the nearly seamless connection between the Bush administration, self-enrichment and companies who receive big government defense contracts.

The roster of Carlyle “consultants” reads like a who’s who guide to government officials of the 1980s, starting with former president George Bush, former secretary of state James Baker, and former defense secretary Frank Carlucci.

The most chilling aspect of Briody’s book is that the political connections and lobbying activities he unmasks are not illegal.

It is a testament to the brain dead mainstream media that the relationship between the Carlyle group and the Bush-Cheney cartel is not a national scandal.

And while they might seem despicably evil, that doesn't mean they're stupid:

A Look At Why The Carlyle Group Wanted to Drop George W. Bush From Its Board A Decade Ago

David Rubenstein, founder of the secretive defense contractor Carlyle Group. Recalls how useless Bush was as a board member of Carlyle’s firm Caterair and his surprise that George W. is now president.

In any event, how's that whole "military industrial complex" thing working out for the Carlyle boys these days? Ooooooh ... ouch:

Carlyle Fund Gets Default Notice After Margin Calls (Update9)

March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Carlyle Group's publicly traded mortgage bond fund failed to pay margin calls, prompting creditors to seek immediate repayment, as the burning subprime mortgage market scorches investors in even the highest-rated debt. The stock fell 58 percent.

Carlyle Capital Corp. missed four of seven margin calls yesterday totaling more than $37 million, the Amsterdam-listed fund said today in a statement. The company expects to get at least one more notice of default related to the margin calls.

I'm sorry ... if this gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over, does that make me a bad person?

YEE HA! Better and better. If I was feeling any more satisfied about this, I'd need a cigarette.

Dear CC:

It is not warm, fuzzy feelings that makes you a bad person; it is driving wingnuts over the cliff that makes you a bad person.

If you were a little nuts yourself, you would have a certain amount of empathy for wingnuts, and might not pick on them as much.

Stating the obvious...

Rubinstein on GWB: So you know if you said to me, name 25 million people who would maybe be President of the United States, he wouldn't have been in that category.

So reminiscent of Hollywood producer Jack Warner when he heard that Ronald Reagan was thinking of running for president.
"No. That can't be right. Ronald Reagan for best friend. Jimmy Stewart for president."
