"... and if it weren't for my trick knee ..."

Over at Blogging Tory Neo's place, Neo's remora fish detach themselves from his nether regions just long enough to bang out a blog post or two explaining how Neo roolz!!!

And yes, the statistics do tell a tale. Its even better when you take the proper Military demographic of young adults between 19 and 40 years of age and compare it to the same civilian demographic ( rather than the entire civilian population) Then you see the Military is way below all National averages for everything from road traffic accidents (for hours driven), drug use, smoking, drinking, spousal abuse, family violence, personal debt and several other statistics that the socialistas love to use to beat up on service people. The only thing the military are higher in is post traumatic stress...

And I'm guessing, perhaps sudden death by sniper fire or having various body parts detached and relocated elsewhere by roadside IEDs. But I'm guessing that was just an oversight. At which point, Lee pops by:

Right you are, kit.
Statistically, they are safer in Afghanistan than they are in Canada.
-Lee-

And yet, Lee, they're over there, and you're back here, no doubt pining for the relative safety of Kandahar City but sadly having to risk life and limb on the mean streets of Kapuskasing or something.

Drop me a note offline, Lee ... I'll set you up with the address of the nearest recruiting centre. No, no, don't thank me ... anything to rid Canada of another useless fuckwit, that's what I always say.

I like to think of it as voluntary community service.

Let's step back for a second: Who the hell has ever accused the military of being a pack wife beating drunks who can't handle money or drive?

I swear to god I hope these fucking assholes on the right wear asbestos suits when handling all this straw..

pack of was what I meant to write...

It has been an exceedingly long and trying week (with in the context of sitting on my ass in front of a computer dealing with office politics and deadlines).

The only thing higher in the military is PTSD
I wonder if Neo knows any veterans coping with PTSD because that alone will drive all those other "socialista" wellness indicators up into the stratosphere. I've also never encountered such a concentration of dysfunctional/ destroyed marriages, alcoholism, depression and other ills as I have on assorted military bases. But i guess I'm just missing something.

I meant commenter "kit" but I'm not sure there's a difference.

OK, one more. Just what the hell do these people mean by "only PTSD"? I guess for a BT, experiencing things that require being on the maximum dose of an anti-depressant for the rest your life just so you can cope with day to day life is no real biggie. Easy-peasy for the family or spouse that has to cope too, I guess. Maybe they should go tell the 1/4 or so of returning veterans estimated to have PTSD that it really isn't a big deal.

Aren't the Army dudes just a bunch of lazy bums living off the gov. tit?

Like I said yesterday, and "Neo" quite happily (if unwittingly) obliges in the post you reference, this miserable bunch of sniveling assclowns and pant-pissing cowards simply love to effectively denigrate the military and completely trivialize the nature of war, all the while blaming “progressives” for their projected contempt. Complete. Fucking. Assholes.

Kit and Lee are either really really stupid or deceitful - or both.

You can’t use overall military statistics which include people in non-combat roles and those here in Canada and apply those to soldiers involved in combat missions in Afghanistan to claim the troops over there are safer than the average Canadian here.

Are these guys really that stupid? They remind me of the argumentative jerks in physics classes who use math to “prove” you can’t walk across a floor.

Actually a lot of them are, that's part of the problem. There have been a lot of military types that are signing on with Blackwater after their time in the UsMil is done. They make exponentially more money and they can't be held accountable for stupid, immoral, illegal, or unethical acts they commit while on the job.

I know that I'm going to get utterly slammed for this, but you get that most soldiers go through their careers without committing "stupid, immoral, illegal, or unethical acts" right?

This idea that gets batted around of Canadian Forces member as "other", as somehow utterly foreign and alien is just bizarre.

Further I can't begin to say how hard it is being on the left and being for the Afghan mission when I know that this gets me lumped in with utter fucking loons.

So on places like this I wind up pushing back against that idea, and on places like The Torch I get to push back against the loons...

God I wish I had no principles... (please, misinterpret this to mean that I'm suggesting that anyone else has no principles, I'm in a really crappy mood and I could use the release)..

Oh, bang on! God, do I remember those types...

"Yes, you're brilliant...now if you just cleaned up that skin and bathed more, you'd be dating...and not wasting everyone's fucking time!"

Um ... Cameron? You might want to go back and read a bit more carefully. I'm just sayin'.

cc, if you'd clarify what I missed I'd be ever so happy.

Cameron:

You appear to think that "e in md" was accusing members of the military of committing "stupid, immoral, illegal, or unethical acts." He wasn't.

He was describing the behaviour of those people after they leave the military and join private mercenary outfits like Blackwater.

Go back and read it again.

I didn't and don't read it that way at all. But thank you for your instructions.
