You're welcome.

Everyone can visit the archives of The Daily Howler, Media Matters and other venues to see for themselves what kind of circus Russert was a willing and well-paid participant in.

We live in exceedingly maudlin and juvenile times, in which people constantly relive their teenage years, mourning the death of people they don't know like they mourned when that girl died in a car accident on prom night.

Good grief, I think the untimely death of any one is sad, but MSNBC is into their 20th hour of uninterrupted coverage of this. Uninterrupted!

Somehow I think we've passed grief and are into celebrity worship. It's hard to believe Tim himself would want this.

It's not a slam against him. It's a slam against the state of the U.S. media nowadays.

And don't forget the part about the last grasping hold the baby boomer generation has on mainstream media and the hairshirting teeth gnashing of the "there for the grace of god go I in the prime of my youth" beer goggles.

last grasping hold

We can only hope, although I'm not all that thrilled about what is being proposed to replace them.

I had a surrealistic moment last night when I was out with our local skeptics group, each and every one of whom worshipped Tim Russert. I thought skeptics were, you know, skeptical enough to realize that while this guy was a great entertainer, he warn't no journalist. Sheesh.

And excuse me for a moment - I need to go outside and scream - twenty fucking hours of uninterrupted fucking coverage!?! Did they even give that much to Princess Di?

We're beyond ridiculous and treading into seriously psychotic territory, here.
