The Washington Post called the callous slag's remarks "disastrous diplomacy" which is really underselling things.
"Appearing at a White House news conference, the first lady said the military junta in Burma is preventing the United States and other nations from providing help in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Nargis, and she alleged that the country's rulers purposely declined to warn people of the impending danger. . . .
"Bush . . . called the Burmese regime 'very inept' and urged it to cancel plans for a referendum later this week, which she said would 'give false legitimacy to their continued rule.'
"The remarks underscore the first lady's uncommon emergence as the administration's most visible spokesman on Burma, also known as Myanmar, which is ruled by a junta that is widely criticized as one of the world's most oppressive and corrupt regimes. The news conference marked the first time that she presided at the White House briefing room, which is generally used for official pronouncements by President Bush or his senior aides."
Now let there be no mistake, the Burmese junta is a fucking nasty bit of work, isolationist, repressive and violent. Yet while they are begging the world for help, Mrs Bush takes the opportunity to go into competition with the world's ugliest matriarch, Barbara Bush, to see who is that family's most reprehensible pig in a skirt. Laura was busy claiming that the Burmese ruling junta was preventing aid from entering the stricken country but the truth was not in the room with her.
"Richard Horsey, a spokesman for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said that the Burmese authorities 'are receptive to international assistance' and that 'discussions are taking place in New York and on the ground about what is needed, what the U.N. can provide and how to get it to the people.'
This would be the first lady of the President whose repressive regime did actually prevent food and emergency supplies from reaching victims of another natural disaster, hurricane Katrina. The Bush junta let tons of perfectly good food donations rot, undelivered as they allowed one of the world's great cities to drown and molder. Must be something about the death and displacement of the poor that brings out the best in the Bush women.
"Laura Bush read the administration's long-standing talking points on Myanmar while simultaneously demanding that its government accept a team of US disaster officials to make an independent assessment of its needs. That the International Red Cross, the United Nations, the European Union and a number of highly competent relief agencies were already on the ground doing exactly that did not seem to matter. Giving Laura a mike and a little halo seemingly was the intent, especially with George W. Bush's popularity hovering at 27% in the polls."
Because nothing is happening until we say it is happening, just another example of "creating reality" that the criminally stupid Bush gang is so expert at.
The first lady tried to make a big deal of the aid the government had already provided: "Americans are a compassionate people and we're already acting to provide help. The U.S. has offered financial assistance through our embassy." But that financial assistance has thus far amounted to a total of $250,000 -- a mere trifle considering the scope of the disaster.
In a perfect world, Laura and her family would be stripped of their wealth and privilege as her husband and his co-conspirators stood trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity. But this is not a perfect world. This is the world in which the deluded wife of the president follows her ignorant and wrong headed performance at the expense of the suffering of the Burmese with prating chatter about the impending wedding of one of her little embarrassments, Jenna. Drunken, pantie flashing, trash bag Jenna is tying the knot and the dry drunk parents couldn't be happier. Let me make a honeymoon suggestion...

Words fail.
I like your idea for the honeymoon! And, for the wedding itself, how 'bout the Ninth Ward of New Orleans?
And, Jenna, sorry, but your dress got unavoidably detained. Brownie was in charge of the delivery, wasn't he?
Heckuva job.
She really shouldn't waste her beautiful mind on something like that. Oh wait, wrong Bush wife. Laura's beautiful mind is just wasted, period.
Um.
1. Skoolmarm or not, Laura's as dumb as George. We didn't really know that before.
2. This is called "repetition compulsion." Laura is stuck in this groove, the one where Burma is BAD.
3. Conservatives generally are slow to change. It's an epistomalogical problem. It takes more than hurricanes or cyclones to reorient them as to time and space.
4. What scares the hell out of SUZIE ALL-CAPS is the fear that her kids are not conservatives, but, if left unsupervised, even for an instant, might use the heads that God gave them to orient themselves to deal with contemporary society.
Just thought that I would point out that the military junta in Burma IS blocking necessary aid from getting into that country. Namely, the necessary expertise in search and rescue as well as disaster aid (emergency water purification, surge of medical personnel, etc etc).
All the while, military commanders are posing for pictures while giving out token aid. Like her or not, shrub's wife made vaild and factual observations.
Just thought I would add:
BANGKOK, 7 May 2008 (IRIN) - John Holmes, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said in New York that four Asian members of a UN disaster coordination team had obtained clearance and would arrive in Myanmar on Thursday. A fifth team member, who is not Asian, had not yet obtained clearance. A UN plane from Italy would be also be arriving with supplies and another team.

The above webpage is the coordination point for the world's largest NGO aid agencies. Good starting point for anyone who actually wants to get out to contribute more then a few words to a crisis.
Alpha male, nobody said dazed and confused was wrong about the Burmese junta. But I realize that you guys don't really get irony.
More like sarcasm. And sarcasm in this case, is cold, tastless, and idiotic. All traits morons here associate with the spit flecked idiots on the far right.
The OP made several factual errors which I corrected here. Time to move along son.
