Play time, boys and girls.

Let’s change things up this week, shall we? Your all Bond/spy answers in the comments, if you please.

1) Favourite spy/espionage/thriller franchise and why.

2) Favourite Bond villain and why.

3) Favourite James Bond theme song.

Me first.

1) The Bourne Trilogy with Matt Damon. While I do love most of the Bond films, there were a few stinkers in there and the Bourne Trilogy, in this girl’s opinion, is just edge-of-your-seat, cracking good fun. The constant twists and turns as Bourne tries to a) find out who he really is, b) resign himself to that knowledge and c) stay alive and one step ahead in the process was incredibly well-played. And Matt Damon was a hell of a pleasant surprise as Jason Bourne.

2) Yaphet Kotto as Dr. Kananga / Mr. Big in Live and Let Die. And I’m breaking my own rule because I don’t really know why. I’ve just always thought that particular Bond film was a complete hoot and Yaphet Kotto played the part so well; at times almost playful in his cold-bloodedness. And his death scene rocked. Come on, blown up like a helium balloon via compressed air pill? Classic.

3) Diamonds are Forever by Dame Shirley Bassey ... the quintessential Bond song.

Your turn.

1) Oh this will be a tough one. There's Matt Helm with the greasy cool Dean Martin doing a lot of wink-wink, nudge-nudge. Then there's James Coburn in the awesome Flint trilogy as Derek Flint perhaps even randier than the lascivious Matt Helm. Um... wait, I have it, the ultimate in cool espionage Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp!

2) Bond villains, lemmesee it just has to be Oddjob from Goldfinger. Come on, he had a frisbee hat of death and he was built like a keg. What's not to admire?

3) I'm going to side with Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger on this one. Just to swerve LuLu. Though McCartney's Live and Let Die is a catchy little number and Carly Simon's Nobody Does it Better was a big hit for her. Yeah, I'm sticking with Shirley and Goldfinger. Killer hat, laser to the nuts and Shirley Bassey... Goldfinger wins. It should be noted that the franchise went terlet diving more than once, working with the likes of a-ha and Duran Doodah in the dark days of the 80s.

I'll note for the record that I've only seen one Bond film since the awful Roger Moore hung up his tuxedo, that being Casino Royale. Shame the franchise didn't croak and move into the realm of fondly remembered nostalgia.

For your big fat information, Mr. Smarty-Ape, Goldfinger and Oddjob would be my second choices.

So there.

Well, no need for me to reply. PSA just wrote all my answers. Thanks, man. ;-)

Well, not Lancelot Link, but toss up between Helm & Flint.

Even the same three themes, in order.

Golden words he will pour in your ear
But his lies can't disguise what you fear
For a golden girl knows when he's kissed her
It's the kiss of death ...

From Mister Gooold-fingaaaah
Pretty girl, beware of his heart of gold
This heart is cold

Mmm, yeah!

Hmmmm.. great minds think a like or fools seldom differ? We report, you decide.

1. Get Smart, because he would say something like, "Well, if it isn't 'Da Craw'" and the chinese badguy will a hook for a hand would get excited and say, "Not da Craw, DA CRAW!!!"

2. Jaws

3. Goldfinger is great, so I will go with The Man with the Golden Gun.

(short on time, can't elaborate or I would say 'Live and let Die' by Paul McCartney :])

Hmmm... I just peeked at amazon and I can get all 4 Matt Helm Movies and both Flint movies for $50 smackeroos. And, um, Lancelot Link for another $24. Hey, the President's Analyst is only $15! To shop or not to shop, that is the question.

Will you still come visit if I tell you I've never seen the Helm or the Flint movies? More importantly, will you bring them with you ;-)

I figured you would have picked The Man With The Golden Gun by Lulu. :-)

1) The Game, Set and Match Trilogy from authour Len Deighton. Deighton's methodical but unremarkable spy, Bernard Samson, was played by Ian Holm in the film version. There aren't any supervillains, neat gadgets or death defying escapes. But as far as plot depth these spy thrillers have more layers than an onion.

2)Francisco Scaramanga from The Man With The Golden Gun. No contest on this one. Scaramanga is Bond's alter ego.

3) A View To a Kill by Duran Doohdah. Hah, just kidding. Live and Let Die from McCartney.

1) While not technically a franchise, I'd have to nominate The Company miniseries, available now on DVD. Based on the book of the same name by Robert Littell (which, of course, is far superior to the filmed version), the story follows a group of spies during the Cold War, from their recruitment at Yale through to the fall of the Soviet Union.

2) Jaws!! Come on, metal teeth! I love the scene at the pyramids (can't remember which movie) when Jaws follows a guy into the desert during a touristy light show...very creepy. Plus - spoiler alert! - Jaws turns 'good' and falls in love in Moonraker. Awww...

3) The Living Daylights, by A-Ha. Yeah, I'm serious.

1) Bond. I've seen 'em all several times, and they keep getting better. It's not fair, because these movies have defined the genre, but you're just going to have to whistle.

2) I'm tempted to say Joe Don Baker as Whitaker in The Living Daylights, because he got to come back later in the franchise as Felix Leiter. I'm also tempted to say Telly Savales as Blofeld, because it's so freakin' obscure. I'm also tempted to say Jonathan Price in Tomorrow Never Dies, because he's so Rupert Murdoch, and his evil is so banal. But I'm gonna say Xenia Onatop, because Famke Janssen is hot, she kills a Canadian Navy officer, and I like watching her pant as she kills people.

Although Christopher Walken as Zorin was pretty damn cool, too.

3) As I said last week. I love A-Ha's Living Daylights. Love it. More than is healthy. Goldeneye was pretty sweet, as well.

I should clarify. I don't mean that each movie is better than the last, I mean that they get better each time I see them. Goofy jokes and all.
