Document the atrocities.

Heh:

Look at Norway. It began allowing same-sex marriage in the 1990s. In just the last decade, its heterosexual-marriage rates have nose-dived and its out-of-wedlock birthrate skyrocketed to 80 percent for firstborn children.

Because, as we all know, gay marriage has a devastating and pernicious effect on out-of-wedlock birthrate.

You know, there's normal stupid, and then there's jaw-droppingly stupid. You know ... Sandy Crux-level stupid; Patsy Ross-level stupid; "Neo Conservative"-level stupid.

It would be funny if it weren't so creepy.

Ummmmm... Norway doesn't have same sex marriage. It has civil unions, the thing all these conservatives want, right? A gay marriage bill was introduced in March 2008, though.

Secondly, the social trends in Scandinavia began long before the recognition of gay relationships occurred and have to do more with the role of the state Lutheran Church and the falling away of religion and its sacraments, than anything else.

Finally, the out of wedlock birthrate in Norway is different than in North America (outside of Québec). These are stable heterosexual couples who choose not to go through the marriage ceremony, not knocked up teenagers or Murphy-Brown style single parents. Secondly, 80% of these couples subsequently got married.

So what alwaysdan is saying is that Sandy is a lying asshat?

Frank Frink said...

Well, yes. Sandy is all that and a bag of Cheetos, but I think in this case it applies more directly to Ricky boy, Mr. Man On Dog hisself.

AlwaysDan is saying that she's repeating other people's lies. It seems part of their authoritarian mindset.

If someone on their side of the culture war says something, it has to be true, no matter how absurd. No fact checking needed.

Ole Rick sounds a lot like Michael Coren. I'm surprised he did not report receiving death threats for his "principled stand" in addition to moaning about being called names.

Divorce laws resulted in a lot of pent up demand being released in a flood of divorces (instead of a trickle of murders). After that, you would see couples wanting to be certain about the relationship before marrying. Once you have a kid, many people want to raise the child in a married family (70% it seems in Norway). But if no child is forthcoming, why create a situation where you have to split all assets when the relationship fails after a couple of years?

Dan Savage made the argument on some cable news show that civil unions were much more of a threat to the institution of marriage than SSM ever would be. A little counterintuitive perhaps, but it seemed to make sense.

Did someone say Santorum?

Frank Frink said...

Yes, JJ. Much as Jonah Goldberg is 'The Doughy Pantload', Ricky Boy is simply 'The Frothy Mixture'.
