The Liberal Party of Canada.

I'll have more to say about this later but it's fair to say that the LPC has just consigned itself to the wilderness of Canadian politics for the next 20 years. Longer if we're lucky.

Like, errr,....

WHAT THE FUCK????

And I know what you are talking about.

I do not.

That toast doesn't look burnt enough.

The LPC really needs to go on a completely unapologetic offensive, and force an election, even if they have to beg on street corners for the money to do it.

I do not.

Oh, I do. 25 posts on Progressive Bloggers on the latest non-issue with which to bash Liberals, fueled by hissy Dippers and one or two wobbly Liberals.

And I don't mean C-484.

What is the non-issue?

Liberals to move non-confidence in . . . other opposition parties

By The Canadian Press
Thu. Mar 6 - 4:48 AM

OTTAWA — Liberals will attempt to turn the tables today on rival parties who’ve ridiculed them for being afraid of toppling the minority Conservative government.

They’ll introduce a motion condemning the NDP and Bloc Quebecois for defeating the previous Grit government in November 2005, thereby enabling Stephen Harper’s Tories to win power.

The motion slams the Harper government for setting back women’s equality rights by cancelling such Liberal measures as the Court Challenges Program and a national child care program.

And it concludes by resolving that the House of Commons "condemn the irresponsible and self-serving actions on Nov. 25, 2005, by the New Democratic Party and the Bloc Quebecois which led to the installation of a government that is hostile to the rights and needs of vulnerable Canadians."

Liberals have refused to join in a series of confidence votes against the government, which would force an election they’re not yet willing or ready to fight. Now they’re using one of their rare opposition days to move what amounts to a non-confidence motion in the other opposition parties instead.

An NDP official dismissed the motion as "laughable."

Right now, as far as I'm concerned, they're all toast -- I'll be writing a big "Fuck You" on my ballot next time out.

I've finally reached the point where I can't even rationalize myself into voting for the "lesser of the evils".

I can smell the Conservative majority now.

Don't say that.

Which differs effectively from what we have now ... how exactly?

And the alternative is what? Theocracy in disguise?

I don't think any one of us wants to find out.

A lot of the changes the Conservatives have manage to make have been through the processes that don't require Parliamentary consent, and as we know, they've really hard to make those procedures as difficult as possible.

We do need to throw out this government (I've said so for two years now), but with the corporatist media (and the Blogging Liars...I mean Tories) and the distracted, disengaged electorate, we need to do it after there is solid evidence to make that change irresistible.

I don't know when that'll happen, exactly. But it's not now.

Remember...they can win even more seats with fewer votes in our fucked electoral process, so this all requires careful consideration.

As someone once said, long long ago...

"Just watch me".

Feel free. You have only one vote. But please stir the pot as much as possible though, so that everyone else would rather boot out the far right extremists than let them win by default.

Harper was a great Opposition Leader, and a shitty Prime Minister. Dion, on the other hand is a lousy Opposition Leader, and will make a great Prime Minister.

I thing the Art CoatHanger law may be the thing that mobilizes the rage to do it. Why kill the law on first reading? Let it work its way though the system so that we get ample evidence of the precipice we would be falling over if these extremists ever had majority power. I don't think people really understand the gravity of the situation. These people are dangerous.

I'm sure you're not so pig headed that you will spoil your ballot then, just because you say so now out of sheer frustration. You won't cut off your nose to spite your face. Only a CPC would be so retarded.

liberal supporter, i know you're doing what you think is right but at this juncture a great many of us are looking at the liberals as the villains, every bit as much as the cons. i am quite fucking angry with the showing they have made of late. if the grand strategy is to sit on their hands and let the fat steve party fuck this country over, then they aren't an alternative to fat steve, they are complicit with him. please send a memo to head office and let them know their strategy sucks dog nuts.

barring any evidence to the contrary, the liberals are the party with no hind legs. the cons are doing exactly what you would expect a herd of half fascist christocrats to do, they're dismantling social programs and steering the economy into a rut. because that's what they do.

the liberals are supposed to be the ones preventing the con fucking idiots from doing too much harm. but their grand plan is to vote along with them? so that the folks out here in the real world will get angry. well it fucking worked. we're fucking angry. we're angry at the harpoons because they are the idiots and creeps we've long known them to be.

but me, i'm furious with the liberals. they are supposed to know better. as opposition, they are supposed to be the brake on the engine of state. instead they are rolling over in front of a minority fucking government and voting in concert with their he-man women hating agenda. oh don't fucking worry i hear, it's only second reading. well when that pig shit bill scampers out of a deadlocked committee unchanged, why should i have any faith that the same blue libs won't echo their votes. and if they *do* change their votes, then they are a pack of whistling fucking hypocrites. hardly a ringing endorsement.

oh vogon overlords, i pray, please come down out of the sky and scoop up our politicians, one and all (except maybe charlie angus) and mulch them for compost. our anger is not your friend.

Nothing so far cannot be repealed.

Unlike the situation if the CPC had a majority. Four years of a focussed attack on all our institutions would leave this nation as we know it in ruins, possibly beyond repair.

You can cavalierly sneer that you will not vote, and you will be complicit in that outcome.

We are being given a taste of CPC majority. Recall that the earlier CPC strategy was to keep their crazies under wraps until they can engineer a defeat and gain a majority. Now they are the ones who have been bamboozled into showing their true colours. You have noticed the truly nutty ones are unmuzzled these days, haven't you?

You can call it "complictness". I call it playing possum. Right now, the CPC is treading relatively carefully. As I said, it will get worse. When you see large demonstrations in the streets, or simply a series of favourable polls, then it will be time.

please send a memo to head office and let them know their strategy sucks dog nuts.
I would not know who to send it to. I am not an insider.

Exactly. And that's why we're so pissed, LS. Why should we have to learn what it would be like to have a CPoC majority? Oh, right ... because the Liberals are rolling over and giving them everything they want so that they might as well have a majority.

Get it now?

liberal supporter said...

You're getting there, but you're not nearly pissed enough. Not at all.

We get one shot. Just one. Blow it and we have a real CPC majority. The "taste" is to get people to realize what the real thing would be like. I have few illusions that we'll somehow muddle through if it happens.

Keep your powder dry. When the public is filling the streets, it will be time.

jesus libsup. you are missing the point here. we are pissed off AT the liberals, you want us more pissed off, just wait. we know full well who and what steven harper is. we are learning that the supposed opposition can't fill the seats on an emotionally charged issue. WE don't get one shot, it isn't about judging the voters, it isn't our fault that the supposed opposition has presented their tender pink asses to our enemies, been mounted, bested and left wanting. if this is the cagey stategy, you'd better hope harper left twenty bucks on the dresser for cab fare, 'cos the libs are gonna get fucking srewed.

With all due respect, LS, you're full of shit. Last I looked, Bill C-484 was not a confidence motion and therefore represented absolutely no threat to bring down the government if it was voted down.

In other words, you folks could have safely voted against it with no political backlash. So knock off the bullshit.
