Not the Blogging Tory news, July 18, 2007.

Breaking news on the law-and-order, morality front:

Los Angeles Catholic Church in record abuse deal

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $660 million to 500 victims of sexual abuse dating back as far as the 1940s in the largest compensation deal of its kind, the plaintiffs' lawyers said on Saturday.

The settlement, which means victims will receive more than $1 million each, is the largest from the Catholic Church in recent years following many cases in which victims sought financial compensation for suffering abuse from priests.

Yes, you've got all the ingredients for right-wing pathos here, don't you -- religion, abuse of children, large amounts of money. Blogging Tories ... what say you?

*** crickets ***

In other BT news, though, apparently there's this Conrad Black guy ...

: Via Liberal Catnip:

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) - A Marine charged with murdering two girls and killing several other Iraqis gave orders to shoot into a room full of children and young women before apparently doing the job himself, a squad member testified Tuesday.

``He was very serious, sir,'' Lance Cpl. Humberto Manuel Mendoza said when a military prosecutor asked whether Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum might have been joking.

And given that the BTs are all about the children, I'm sure we can predict the outrage.

I'm sure you saw that coming.
