Apparently, "safety" is in the eye of the beholder.

From the comments section, here's a spectacularly failed attempt at a smackdown:

You sit in your chair safe because of Canadian soldiers.

Really? I was unaware that Taliban soldiers were massing at our borders, preparing for the invasion. But you know what scares me? You know what really, truly frightens me? Way more than Taliban or al Qaeda terrorists? This.

What genuinely terrifies me is that Stephen Harper and his cronies are slowly and methodically selling our country out from under us, and denying us our chance to even dissent.

I don't give a fuck about al Qaeda or the Taliban. What are they going to do? Blow something up? Kill some people? Big deal. You want to see the face of terrorism? I mean, true domestic terrorism? Here, let me show you:

If you give a rat's ass about Canada, Stephen Harper is your absolutely worst nightmare. If he gets his way, we won't be the 51st state. We'll be worse off than that, given that the U.S. will be happily telling us what we're allowed do with our oil, our water and our trees, not to mention who's allowed to fly where and on what airline.

I don't need to go to Afghanistan to see the biggest threat to Canada in history. I just need to look at the treasonous fuckers at the Blogging Tories who couldn't be happier that Canada is being sold off piece by piece.

"Safe?" You are freakin' kidding. There's nothing that the Taliban can do that would even remotely match the damage being done to this country by the CPoC and its slavish groupies.

When it comes to pure, unadulterated evil, I'll take my chances with Osama bin Laden, thanks. At least I'd still have a country to try to defend.

Wow. I had to go to the Ottawa Citizen (linked at the Creekside blog) to confirm that the U.S. Army having a say on the matter wasn't just Council of Canadians paranoia. This has gotta be unprecedented, right?

Defend your country? You? Sure you would ... just as you are doing now, coward, writing adolescent rantings safe within Canada, safe behind your anonymity, safe from everything. You are some tough guy. You faker, you are no less anonymous than I and infinitely less inclined to defend your country that I. Such a big man, "defending" Canada from an imagined terrorist (Harper) while bravely taking his "chances" with a real one (bin Laden). You disgust me, little boy.

Anon, you don't have a fucking clue. That is truly one of the funniest things I have ever read.

So, you know all this about CC just by reading this blog eh? You know all of this? Or are you merely projecting your little straw man stereotype of what you think a "lefty" blogger is?

You don't know shit, wanker.

I will wager that CC has done more to defend Canada than an anonymous twit like you has ever done.

Ever.

Not to mention that at least Osama bin Laden is honest about his intentions if given the opportunity unlike our current PM. You know it is a truly disturbing reality when one can point to the world's most prominent terrorist and say he is more trustworthy (as in being able to trust that what he claims/says and what he does/will do are the same, any other interpretation ascribed is the creation of those making that claim and not mine, and doing so dishonestly at that given this qualifier) than our Prime Minister.

On the broader point about the threat Harper poses, I agree with CC and have for many years. I do not trust anyone that considers the teachings of Leo Strauss worthy of following which as a member of the Calgary School Harper and his inner circle of fellow Calgary School members most certainly do. Concepts like the noble lie and that only the elites are qualified/should have a voice in shaping government and governing policy are antithetical to democracy and the idea of the rule of law being applied equally to all without fear or favour.

Combine that with Harper's clear belief that America is a far better nation than Canada and therefore we should not just emulate it but worse exist only to service the US, instead of deciding for ourselves how we choose to be governed, who we decide to do business with and by how much, what laws we wish to be in effect (cannabis decriminalization being a classic example but far from the only or even most serious one), etc regardless of what the Americans would prefer/desire first. I have been a Canadian nationalist all my life going way back to when being so was uncool because we weren't jingoistic like our American neighbours about our nation/flag. I happen to think Canada is a truly remarkable nation with much to offer by being the community of communities that we are instead of following an assimilationist approach. I happen to think that we represent the future of modern society by having our identity rooted in civil society/government instead of big cultural myths, that we value peace order and good government as our goals as a society instead of intangible ideals like liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Don't get me wrong, I find much I value about America (well the pre-GWB America anyway) and consider us fortunate to have had them for a neighbour, but the current America is one I see as a real threat to our future as an independent nation, and Harper's approach is one that basically means we are bending over, grabbing our ankles, presenting ourselves, and begging pretty please for the big hard American fucking over (aka taking de facto control of our economy/society). So yes, Harper is a direct threat to our sovereignty. We may not be able to be truly apart from America thanks to a combination of circumstances but that does not mean we should just do whatever they want of us and give them whatever they want, that is the way of the defeatist, which Harper's CPC demonstrated they believe in with the Softwood sellout among other atrocious acts since coming to power.

If you are so scared of our Prime Minister why are you still here? If you actually believed Harper was 'the real terrorist' and you had any convictions you would have long fled the country. You must not fear him too much because there are planes leaving the country every hour from Pearson Airport. If you are such a moron to actually believe what you've written why aren't you on one? I think you are really just a pathetic loser sitting alone, friendless, acting out like a spoiled child because any man or woman of true conviction and belief would have acted on such beliefs and gotten away from the Prime Minister you so claim to fear.

The Council of Canadians has been told that the RCMP and the SQ will be enforcing a 25-kilometre security perimeter around the Chateau Montebello, where Stephen Harper will meet with George W. Bush and Felipe Calderón on August 20 and 21."

See? I told you we'd be coming for Canada eventually. Gotta figure we can't be leaving our borders open and all. =)

Ok.. the person posting anonymously is blasting someone else about cowardice.

Hi Mr. Pot. I'm mister Kettle.

BAHAHAHAHAAH.... What a fucking LOSER.

I wouldn't worry too much, CC. These asshats are probably one of the professional right wing bloglodytes from Netvocates or WinningCampaigns.com or something.

Mike,

"So, you know all this about CC just by reading this blog eh?" you said.

I can tell plenty about him. So, yes.

"I will wager that CC has done more to defend Canada than an anonymous twit like you has ever done," says you some more.

Well, Mike, that was just my point now. Wasn't it? CC is no less anonymous than I. Who is this anonymous tough guy, ready to protect Canada from Harper?

Really? Thought so.

Yes, Mike, reading leftist blogs I can tell a lot about leftists. For one thing, they live in a fantasy world where people like Bush and Harper are the terrorists and bin Laden is nothing to worry about, and where countries like Canada don't need defending against external threats (unless, of course, you're talking about the threat to Canada from the US), only from threats like "right wingers."

Useless people. Complete waste or air.

Mike said...

So, cciap, by running away CC would have proved that he has strong convictions? I don't follow that.

E can you not read, you perfect moron?

Right below that I said, "You faker, you are no less anonymous than I ...." Are you always so damn retarded, e in md? Don't bother answering that; it was rhetorical. You ARE always so retarded, and as you retards say, "BAHAHAHAHAAH."

Please stop embarrassing yourself, e in md; it makes me embarrassed for you ... and I hate that.

Thanks in advance for not posting anymore,

The man* who is no more anonymous than CC.

Oops. Make that LESS anonymous, because you now know my sex. Do we know CC's?

Well, rah rah, Scotian. But when did this become a thread about the merits of Canada over the United States? We all know you by into the brainwashing. Why keep reminding us?

"Buy" not "by."

UN FUCKING BELIEVABLE!!!!

I know! Brainless wingnut ranting continues to astonish me as well.

Anonymous said...

Really nice and offensive...

It seems quite obvious the leftist mindset couldn't give "a rat's ass" about human rights of people in the Middle East.
How can anyone write a post like this and claim to give "a rat's ass" about the brutal slavery endured by women under the taliBAN?

Anonymice:

When our PM is a devotee of an American political philosopher, has as his fundamental political philosophies and principles the same teachings and beliefs as that of the true American neoconservative movement then it becomes relevant. Not to mention the fact that Harper is a clear fan of the USA over what he sees in Canada over the last couple of decades, he has a long and well documented public record showing this.

As for anyone saying I and those like me that we should leave this country, well too bad, this is a liberal nation shaped as one of the most progressive nations on earth by the design of the majority of the populace and voters. It is not we that have problems with Canada as it is it is those like Harper and those that follow his standard that do, in other words it is you folks that if you don't like the way this country is should leave if anyone must. Given my family roots predate Confederation on both sides of my family and helped shape the economic and political directions of this nation I will be damned if I am going to be run off by a bunch of secretive and dishonest radicals/revolutionaries that know they cannot do what they want by campaigning openly on it (see electoral failures of Reform and CA and CPC first time when these principles were openly campaigned on unlike the last election) and so must do it by stealth dishonestly and it would not be surprising (since their American inspiration the GOPers and Bushco have done so) to also use illegal methods to turn the tools of government into the tools of their party/agenda.

In more blunt terms, fuck you from someone that truly loves this nation and who has always spoken in its favour as a patriotic nationalist. I may not believe in my country right or wrong but I do believe in it when it is right and when it is wrong I work within the system to try and change things as opposed to the deceitful method embraced by modern Conservatives.

Scotian,

If Harper truly prefers the US to Canada, as you say, then -- what can I say? -- he's a perceptive man. One must always prefer the real to the unreal, the fully-formed to the half-baked, and the solid and enduring to the ephemeral.

And, in response to you well-stated and heartfelt greeting, all I'd like to say is, "Get real!"
