That’s just filthy.

I guess they got their talking points in the mail last night because the Blogging Tory apologists are all over the “inappropriate” remarks of one Mr. Tom Lukiwski. After all, who hasn’t done something in the past that they aren’t a little embarrassed by? Right? Come on ...

Papa Junker, however, has decided to provide some pictorial evidence as to why this is really not that big a deal — with a little gratuitous KKKate-leg-humping thrown in. Who knew he was so freaky? (BTW, that link is soooo not work safe.)

My question is though, what did the NDP hope to accomplish by this stunt? They've embarrassed the "enemy" ... but once the apologies are made ... what then? This story will be dead by Friday ... and those who insist on pushing it along too far risk coming off as modern day inquisitors. Brad Wall is in the early days of a strong majority government ... I think he'll survive until Friday. As too Tom ... it'll take a Federal election to decide if the NDP stunt was worth it ... my guess is ... they just may send more voters into the arms of the CPC if they push this matter to the point of becoming witch hunters.

Maybe they’ll pull out the "frat boy" defense next.

What amazes me is that these guys are so deep inside their wing-nut bubble that they have no idea how awful they sound to the average Canadian. They think their prejudices and bigotry and hatred is NORMAL and that anybody who thinks otherwise is an anomoly.

I also love how they desperately want to change the channel whenever there is an issue that pops up making the Conservatives look horrid. Think back on how often they try to hijack discussions by mindless bleatings of "ADSCAM" for the past several years.

Well - guess what? The mask has slipped and the media is finally paying attention to the atrocious crap regularly spewed by these trogladyte right-wingnuts.

No amount of whistling past the graveyard is going to take the focus off of their ugliness. In fact the more that reporters delve into the issue, the more horrified they are likely to become.

No wonder CJunk and company are hitting the panic button. Reality is starting to put the white-hot glare of the media spotlight on the intolerant, rage-filled right and they don't come out the other side of the experience for the better.

He sounds like he's repent and the right-wingnut-o-sphere may want to say that all this happened 17 years ago, but it was only 3 years ago that:

Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski makes a final speech. So raucous is the chamber, so loud the press gallery that I can barely hear him declare that the [gay marriage] bill represents “a very slippery slope” that could lead to polygamy.

You can tell just by the way the guy sneered over the word "faggots" that this is what he really thinks of homosexuals. He doesn't regret a damn thing. He regrets that he got caught.

It's a shame nobody stuck a camera in Ezra's face when he was yucking it up at Canadian Alliance parties doing his Louis Farrahkan impressions. Apparently ol' Ezra is quite the card when it comes to making fun of African-Americans or Canadians.

I know at least one person who caught his performance... and that person has a pretty good memory about who else was present...

I'm just saying this in case Ezra decides he wants to sue somebody again,

I've noticed that many on the right are airing this old Tommy Douglas video from 1968 and claiming it is equivalent to Lukiwski’s statements in 1991. What maroons.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54wQBgZ02KM

In 1968 Everett Klippert was languishing in jail under a life sentence upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada for merely telling a cop he was gay, which made him a "dangerous sex offender". And it wasn't until 1973 that the APA was 5 years away from removing homosexuality from their list of mental disorders.

Tommy Douglas may have held an outdated view that gays were mentally ill but his intent was to call for better treatment in society.

Are they really so stoopid to believe that this is equivalent to Lukiwski’s comments about "faggots... spreading diseases". Both the content and the intent couldn't be different.

"They've embarrassed the "enemy" ... "
The NDP hasn't embarrassed anyone. The SaskParty embarrassed themselves.

toujoursdan, I agree with all that you have said.

Also, I'm very surprised by Jason Cherniak defending his apology.

If he had used "jews" instead of "faggots", I'm sure many would be looking at this issue differently.

And these people who are screaming "political correctness is killing Canada" are the same ones who would be screeching, howling and throwing a tantrum if anyone insulted Christianity - like they did when "The Last Temptation of Christ" was aired.
