... and lead us not into soft rock, but deliver us from elevator music ...

Kevin has the right idea.

perhaps something from the psalms?

The rthymn section is my guide and I shall not lose the beat.
They maketh me lay back on the turnaround, Theu guideth me into the backbeat.
They restoreth my soul, They leadeth me into the most righteous of grooves for its own sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of disco, I shall fear no lameness for they are tight, their bass and their drums they cover for me.
They prepare a set list for me while I am in the presence of the groupies. They annointeth me with whatever booze is on the rider - my solo runneth on and on. Surely funkiness and rocking will follow me all the days of my life and I shall play air guitar to Houses of the Holy forever.

Amen!

I have always been partial to a prayer I saw on an enormous leather clad gentleman wearing at Sturgis one year.

"Yea though I walk through the valler of the shadow of death I will fear no evil...

for I am the meanest sonofabitch in the valley."

As long as people are talking about the 23d Psalm in a musical context, let's not forget the one in Pink Floyd's "Sheep":

The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives he releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, he hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we’ll make the bugger’s eyes water.
