BREAKING NEWS! Provocateur edition.

According to Cliff:

Update 3: The CEP says they have proof these three 'protesters' are Quebec police officers and will release it this afternoon:

News advisory - News conference on "arrest" of phony demonstrators OTTAWA, Aug.22 /CNW Telbec/ - Video footage of the arrest of police officers posing as demonstrators at Montebello, August 20, will be shown today at a news conference at the offices of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. "We have proof that the three individuals who were "arrested" after being exposed as "agents provocateurs" were, in fact, members of the Quebec police force," says CEP President Dave Coles, and we plan to do what it takes to bring this matter to justice." CEP Secretary-Treasurer Gaétan Ménard, Barb Byers of the CLC and Council of Canadians President Maude Barlow will also be in attendance.

All I can say is, the CEP better have one powerful case, or they're going to end up looking very, very foolish.

UH OH ... CTV also covers the aforementioned press conference, but the language used there is decidedly less adamant:

The CEP, Canadian Labour Congress and Council of Canadians President are planning a joint news conference Wednesday to discuss the video.

I'm sorry, but holding a press conference to "discuss the video" is a far cry from "proving" the presence of police provocateurs. I hope that was just a poor choice of words on CTV's part.

If Coles called this conference to do nothing more than summarize all the circumstantial evidence we've been discussing thus far, he's just made a huge mistake.
