When Blogging Tories finally go insane.

The setup:

The Harper Gov’t Accomplishments
...
(16) Fixed Election Dates — An Act to Amend the Canada Elections Act (Bill C-16), passed May 3, 2007 (Link)

The ugly new development:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper hinted strongly Thursday that he may do something to trigger an election because Parliament is not functioning anymore.

Enter the weasel:

Yes, I know all about the fixed election date legislation. But, two points must be considered: the first is that the legislation ONLY relates to majority governments and secondly, the possibility of “contingencies” have been written into the legislation. So, there are two reasons for an election before October 2009 — the government is a minority government and the functions of the government are currently in a state of “dysfunction.”

That would be Sandy, suddenly parsing very, very carefully, while carefully avoiding the fact that it is her glorious idol Benito Harper who is, in fact, the root cause of all that dysfunction. But let us not soil Sandy's intellect (such as it is) with mere facts. Because it gets so much better.

If Yo, Harper! sucks it up and decides to take us all to the polls:

Without a doubt, if the PM pays a visit to the Governor General, you’ll have the usual suspects condemn him for breaking his word. But, given what the fixed date legislation really states, he certainly would not have done that. He is acting as a leader should and the average Canadian will simply see that he is a statesman who can make the tough decisions when it is necessary.

On the other hand:

Now, if I am wrong and there is no election in 2008, it will also show the extent of Stephen Harper leadership abilities because it will mean he can pass the legislation currently stuck in committee and the Senate because the Liberals under Stephane Dion would have to duck again.

So, if I read Sandy correctly, Stephen Harper dragging us into an election will show that he is a "leader." Conversely, if he guts it out, he will most assuredly demonstrate "leadership." Can I get a job like that? Where I can never possibly be wrong? That would be so cool.

And remember ... Sandy has a Ph.D. Frightening, isn't it?

He said Dion keeps threatening to force an election. But he said Dion should let Parliament work
How is Dion preventing Parliament from working? Which bills have been voted down? Does Harper believe that with a majority there would no longer be debates and votes? No more committees? Well, maybe he does.

It seems "dysfunctional" is the new word for "won't take the bait".

Yeah, I was fishing on the weekend but the fish were dysfunctional...

Dysfunctional? Meaning he can't push through every stupid piece of legislation he wants? That's a GOOD thing. It's why I think minority governments are the best. The problem is that Harper is so much of a fucking wingnut that he can't get anyone to play along with him. Hmm. You think maybe if everyone else things your ideas are retarded, that maybe, I dunno, your ideas are RETARDED?! Fuck.
