Suing Ezra Levant -- you'll have to stand in line.

And while we're on the subject of whiny, right-wing lawyers with massive persecution complexes, it occurs to me that one Lori Andreachuk has an arguable case to sue Ezra for defamation or something along those lines.

For quite some time, Ezra has claimed that Alberta HRC judge Andreachuk, in handing down a ruling against frothing homophobe Stephen Boissoin, required Boissoin to "renounce" his faith:

So Rev. Boissoin doesn't just have to issue a false apology. He has to publicly humiliate himself, by publicly declaring his contrition -- contrition he does not feel -- and his abandonment of his deeply-held religious beliefs. A second-rate government bureaucrat has ordered a Canadian pastor to publicly renounce his religious beliefs.

Boissoin was required to "publicly renounce his religious beliefs?" Really? I know ... let's examine the ruling, shall we, where we can find the actual punishment:

14. The Panel finds, and the Panel orders as follows:

a. That Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall cease publishing in newspapers, by email, on the radio, in public speeches, or on the internet, in future, disparaging remarks about gays and homosexuals. Further, they shall not and are prohibited from making disparaging remarks in the future about Dr. Lund or Dr. Lund’s witnesses relating to their involvement in this complaint. Further, all disparaging remarks versus homosexuals are directed to be removed from current web sites and publications of Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc.

b. That The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. and Mr. Boissoin shall, in future, be restrained from committing the same or similar contraventions of the Act.

c. That Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. provide Dr. Lund with a written apology for the article in the Red Deer Advocate which was the subject of this complaint.

d. That Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall request the Red Deer Advocate publish a copy this Order in the Red Deer Advocate and that they request their written apology for the contravention of the Act be published in the Red Deer Advocate.

e. That Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall pay to Dr. Lund an award for damages, jointly and severally, in the amount of $5,000.00.

f. That Ms. Dodd shall provide a list of expenses incurred as a result of her testimony at the hearing to the Panel Chair for review and such sum shall be paid to her for her actual expenses associated with this matter up to the maximum amount of $2,000.00 as directed by the Panel Chair upon receiving her list of expenses. Such amounts so ordered by the Panel Chair shall be paid jointly and severally by Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc.

Curiously, I see nothing about a requirement to "renounce" one's religious beliefs, but that hasn't stopped Ezra from making that claim over and over and over (all emphasis added):

Here:

So a pastor cannot give a sermon.

But he must give a false sermon; he is positively ordered to renounce his deeply held religious beliefs, and apologize to his tormentor for having those views.

And then that pastor is ordered to declare to his entire city that he has renounced his religious views, even though he has not.

And here:

I think I was unfair to Lori Andreachuk, the thug on the Alberta "human rights" commission who recently ordered a pastor to publicly renounce his religious faith.

And here:

I've been thinking about the insanity of the government ordering a man to apologize for his beliefs, and to publicly denounce himself and renounce his faith.

And here:

I don't think it's an official order, like their order that Rev. Boissoin renounce his Christianity.

And here:

That story created a buzz because Andreachuk's order was so un-Canadian -- a Christian pastor was ordered to recant his views, publicly renounce his faith, ...

And here:

Here's a powerful public letter from Bishop Fred Henry of Calgary to Ed "Ed" Stelmach, the Premier of Alberta and overseer of the bigoted human rights order against Rev. Stephen Boissoin -- including a lifetime ban on that pastor from commenting on moral issues, and an order for him to publicly renounce his faith.

And here:

But what else is the order from Alberta's HRC, telling Rev. Stephen Boissoin that he must renounce his religious views, if not the work of thought police?

If I were Andreachuk, I might decide that I'd finally had enough of that mouthy, lying shit Ezra Levant, and I'd get myself a good lawyer, and I'd sue Ezra for libel, or defamation, or whatever seemed appropriate under the circumstances, and get him to apologize for his blatant and relentless dishonesty.

There's a certain amusing irony about dipshits like Ezra whinging on and on about being dragged into court for libel when, in fact, they have a bad habit of blatantly, you know, libelling people.

It's funny how that works, isn't it?

The funny thing is that what the likes of Boissoin and Henry write about gays and lesbians is anything but "deeply held religious beliefs". It's all trumped up lies drawn from the hate groups, mostly out of the US. Nobody has ever told these morons that they can't believe in vindictive old men in the sky.

David Warren made the same false assertion in the Ottawa Citizen on Saturday.

Seems to me these guys are talking to each other. more than one person needs to get sued.

But, but, but ... by ruling that Boisson and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall cease publishing in newspapers, by email, on the radio, in public speeches, or on the internet, in future, disparaging remarks about gays and homosexuals isn't Andreachuk forcing them to renounce their "faith" by ensuring that they don't act like mouthbreathing, homophobic, hatemongering wingnuts?

When you look at it from that perspective, Better-than actually kinda, sorta, maybe has a point. If, you know, you're a mouthbreathing, homophobic, hatemongering wingnut ...

Writes Lulu:

Andreachuk forcing them to renounce their "faith" by ensuring that they don't act like mouthbreathing, homophobic, hatemongering wingnuts?

Not really - the ruling merely means that they are obliged to moderate their conduct - especially in public. What they do in private remains their business.

"get him to apologize for his blatant and relentless dishonesty"

and get him to renounce his faith, too. publicly.
