Impeachment

Hurray! Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee for Preznit of Murka. Hurray! Throughout the primary season I watched candidates that I felt were better qualified pushed over the side by the Dems. This electoral season down in the States has indeed been historic but now the greater test remains, the general election. Time will tell if Obama's charisma will carry the day. Meanwhile the swiftboats will be fueling up. Let the craziness begin.

Among those that were deemed unacceptable by the donkey party were labour friendly John Edwards, scrappy Chris Dodd who took his support of net neutrality to the floor in a filibuster and Dennis Kucinich. In the wasteland of politics, Kucinich was reviled for being short and having over large ears. Surely, in the wake of the codpiece, America couldn't have quirky looking president. Besides, Kucinich as much as admitted that he thought there were aliens in outer space. Why that's crazy headed talk, swear on a Bible. No right thinking person could take a guy serous if he thought there was any chance of intelligent life in the universe. Everybody knows that Gawd made us out of dust. Except for chicks. They're made out of our rib bones.

Anyway, the funny looking little guy that nobody took seriously is still on the job. He's doing what the rest of the spineless whelps in the Democratic party should be doing, checking and balancing the over reach of executive authority by the White House. He's introduced
articles of impeachment against George Bush, war criminal.

Some video of the proceedings and a partial transcript are available at
Raw Story.

"Resolved," Kucinich then began, "that President George W. Bush be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate. ...

"In his conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and to the best of his ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has committed the following abuses of power..."

The first article Kucinich presented, and many that followed, regarded the war in Iraq: "Article 1 - Creating a secret propaganda campaign to manufacture a false case for war against Iraq."

Going over to CNN.com there isn't a peep about a congressman introducing articles for the impeachement of the president, though to be fair, they do cover important items like an interview with Hulk Hogan and the increasing demand for ghost hunters.

The paper of record? New York Times politics section has nothing on the front page, even toward the bottom, Michelle Obama's wardrobe choices garner more coverage than Mr Kuinich's principled and courageous stand.

On the other coast, the L.A. Times has space on their nation/world page for a story about the declining population of rare chickens. Impeachment of the nation's chief executive, not so much.

CTV's world news page... Jessica Alba had a baby!

In fact the only notice I have found in my quick tour of the news is a small Reuters article via
Yahoo News.

Wouldn't it be nice to hear nominee Obama spread his politics of hope to cover a matter that takes a touch of courage? Yes, we can indict the criminals that steered the world into greater unrest through campaigns of deceit. Yes, we can. But only if the dreams and hopes are directed with courage, if charisma is steeled by justice. My hat is off to Dennis Kucinich. He might be playing Quixote, but at least someone has the reproductive equipment to go after the crooks and liars that have usurped the Oval Office and thrown the world into such wanton, wasteful and violent disarray.

While I applaud Kucinich for going forward with impeachment - the problem remains that such proceedings are coming much too little, too late.

Which in itself constitutes a travesti - because such proceedings should have begun a good two years or so ago.

Borrringgg. Where's the secret liason, the stained dress, the description of the President's penis?

Yet one more example of liberal bias controlling the media.

I had c-span.org streaming last night while Kucinich read off impeachment articles 9 through 22... and man, was it looooong. He wasn't just introducing the impeachment articles; he was reading into the Congressional Record each and every bit of publicly available supporting documentation.

Around article 22 it was getting late and I started getting sleepy... but listening to all of that being read into the record sure put a smile on my face!

mentarch, he did introduce them before. They died in the House so he withdrew them.

PSA: It's not even on Kucinich's site, so you can hardly blame the media just yet.

However, WAPO does have an article on it. Rep Kucinich calls for Bush impeachment

e in md: actually, didn't he introduced articles of impeachment against Cheney (in April 2007, if I recall correctly), which ended up in limbo upon arrival at the Judiciary Committee?

Unless I am mistaken (quite the possibility - heh), those articles of impeachment against Bush are a first ... but they are likely to suffer the same fate as those he put forth against Cheney.

Kucinich tried for an impeachment of Bush as part of his election strategy for the Presidential election. Before he dropped out he suddenly dropped the idea like a hot potato because he realized it wasn't going to get him elected. But yes he did try to bring charges against Cheney in.... 05 I think it was.

I doubt his motivations and reasoning. However, Bush is an admitted felon so Congress needs to step up and impeach him. I haven't studied Darth Cheney enough to know if the articles against him were legit or not.

Personally, Obama is being smart, and so are the various media outlets.

The last thing they should do is give fuel to "They're attacking the President, the traitors" gang.

There's lots of people in the States who although they are unhappy with what the Shrub has done will reflexively rally to him if they think he's being attacked.
