um, wtf? shirley's enunciation is too good for this lyric. and what's with the bond-esque setting and sound? i mean it's nice that she's trying to stay hip and relevant but this is just... peculiar. you can't deny the talent and power of shirley bassey but it would be like pavarotti covering bob dylan, it don't make much sense. though, i bet she could really do something with another pink song that isn't a fluffy frivolity, i'd like to hear her put her talent to better use on 'dear mr president'.
She originally recorded it for a Marks & Spencer Christmas ad for British TV. I just think the whole concept is deliciously campy ... and you can't deny that she looks pretty damn good for her age.
marks & sparks? my nana used to send me marks & spencers clothing when i was a kid. that shop will forever be synonymous with frumpy sweater vests and flannelette pajamas in my mind. but hell yeah, shirley is a stunner.

In everyones' mind, since that's all they carried when then ran stores in Canada (unlike in the UK). That's why it went tits up.
What is it with 60's crooners doing updated pop?
So, will we see Paul Anka doing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" too?
He also covers "Jump" by Van Halen and "Black Hole Sun" in case you are wondering...
