"Raphael Alexander" thinks dead Canadians are a good idea.

Apparently, Blogging Tory "Raphael Alexander" thinks a whack of terrorist-murdered Canadians would be good for him winning his arguments. At least that's how I'm interpreting this:

As for a perfect country to fight a war in support of, I fear it will take an attack on Canadian soil before people really get rallied behind any kind of meaningful cause they care about.

Oh, wait, sorry, I misread that. It would only represent someone wanting numerous Canadians murdered in order to score political points if it was being written by a lefty. When it's written by a conservative, it means ... uh, something totally different, I guess.

My bad. Carry on.

He should be careful what he wishes for. The cause I'd rally around after an attack is the one that rounds up these wingnuts who've so fucked up the World and ships them off to Afghanistan or Iraq to fight the battles they love so much themselves.

RA misses the point of terror attacks like that. They aren't as much about killing large numbers of civilians as they are about generating a response that will say, get the West bogged down in land war in Asia and bugger the political and social discourse for years over the cost in blood and treasure, all the while driving up support for the terrorists...

A wiser way of responding would, in the case of another attack, to simply take the hit and carry on as normal. Grin back, extend a middle finger at the attackers, and carry on with life. Let the attack have an absolute minimal impact on how we conduct our lives. Find those responsible if possible, but not to the extent of invading anywhere or bombing wedding parties in sovereign states, because the long fight in that scenario does not work in our favour. As we're finding after close to a decade in Afghanistan.

I don't think North American society is mature enough anymore to react like that. That's why I believe an aggressive reaction from the rest of us *after* such an attack will be required.

The multi-nationals and their propaganda machines (ie, the news media) love nothing more than a war. They might think twice about that if they realise they could get one much closer to home.

Yeah, just like what happened before WW1 and WW2. Right?
