More coverage of "The United People of Canada" ...

There's this thread:

This bears watching.

HMMMMMMMMM ... it appears that, only days after opening, the good folks at TUPOC are slashing prices on their obscenely-overpriced merch:

Whatever could this mean?

Here's a simple solution. If TUPOC is willing to put on a free BBQ every Sunday like they claim, then all of the homeless people in the area should show up and chow down at their expense. Then leave. And keep doing that every Sunday. Maybe everyone else in the area can do the same.

Anon @ 5:38 AM: That sounds clever, but the downside is the speculation that the folks at TUPOC *precisely* want the local homeless and downtrodden to show up for free food, at which point the propaganda will be unleashed on them, convincing them to join the cause. It's always been easier to radicalize someone if they're hungry and you feed them first. So I would be wary of this suggestion.

Agreed, CC. Moreover, it allows TUPOG to finally provide an accomplishment. "We feed the homeless!"

Brian Busby: That is such a classic way to build an initial positive reputation; it's what happened at the siege of Ottawa, when the "Freedom Convoy" -- in the midst of occupying the core, harassing citizens and shutting down businesses -- kept bleating, "Hey, we have a soup kitchen and we're feeding the hungry!"

It remains to be seen what happens next after they've held enough public BBQs and figure it's time to move on to the next phase.

For those looking at that white tree symbol they’ve emblazoned on everything, here’s an excellent thread that explores the connections to white supremacist and neo-nazi symbology:

… this deserves to be shared widely. The fascists have found a rich vein of money flowing around and through the Freedumb Convoy infrastructure, and they’re using it.

That makes sense. When I first saw that logo, I figured it looked like something that was designed with the Soldiers Of Odin in mind.
Yggdrasil (the World Tree) covered in red maple leafs? White supremacist vibes in spades.

I believe the organization is following the Pawlowski model - Artur often launches his anti-Islam, anti-gay, anti-liberal tirades at his soup kitchen, which allows his followers to bleat he was "arrested for feeding the poor".

I also note that William Komer's linked in profile identifies his as the proprietor of a restaurant, and shows as his point of contact a catering and food supply company (http://www.koolgroups.com/). It would be interesting to determine whether this for-profit company is involved in any way in the provision of supplies and services to "The United People of Canada", his apparently well-funded not-for-profit.
