Given CPoC MP Garth Turner's recent ouster from the Conservative caucus (somewhat akin to punishing someone by telling them you're not going to run their nutsack over a cheese grater anymore), it's worth taking a quick look back into recent history (all emphasis added).
Aug 16, 2006:
The unholy war of words over gay marriage between outspoken Conservative MP Garth Turner and some members of Canada's Christian community has evolved into a full-fledged fight for who gets to represent his riding in the next election.
Turner's opponents were to hold a meeting Tuesday night to determine if they could run someone against him in an upcoming nomination meeting for the riding of Halton. The Conservative party does not protect incumbent MPs.
Aug 23, 2006:
The former riding president for Conservative MP Rob Anders has been disqualified in his bid to challenge the controversial politician for the Calgary West nomination.
Walter Wakula, a businessman who is a member of the University of Calgary senate, has appealed the decision to the national party office.
No reason for the rejection has been made public.
I'm sure there's a Steve and Sandra 'toon in there somewhere. Paging Alison -- Alison to the white snarkophone, please.
