There's stupid, there's really stupid ...

... and then there's Joanne, who seems too dense to understand that the examples she presents don't actually bolster her "Defence of Religions" argument at all. Once again, like an outbreak of cold sores, we are faced with another Blogging Tory who refers to Christian martyrs Scott Brockie and Chris Kempling, even though those cases have been thoroughly savaged.

For fuck's sake, Joanne, grow up. Stop bullshitting everyone about how this is an issue of religious freedom and just come out and say it -- you don't like faggots and you don't want to have to deal with them. At least have the spine to be honest about it. It's your bigotry. Own it, baby.

A DOUCHEBAG FOR ACCURACY. Recall, if you will, an earlier post of mine on this same topic, which opened thusly:

Only three things in life are certain: death, taxes and the fact that, when frothing wingnuts whine on about examples of terrible, religious persecution, they're almost always misrepresenting the facts horrendously.

And, not surprisingly, Joanne's post is a textbook example of exactly that. Joanne's discussion of the Chris Kempling case makes it seem so ... innocuous:

Kamloops teacher, Chris Kempling, who was suspended for daring to question homosexual marriage in a letter to the editor, and was suspended for four months without pay, though there was no evidence whatever he had mentioned this view in a classroom.

That's it? Sure doesn't sound like that big a deal ... until you learn all the good stuff that Joanne conveniently omitted, courtesy of Grog:

Kempling was suspended from his job as Teacher and Counsellor for more than just that. Kempling was repeatedly writing hostile "letters to the editor", as well as advertising "cures" for homosexuality through his "therapy" business on the side.

So, as we've explained before, Kempling wasn't just a teacher, he was a counsellor at the school. And he didn't just write a letter questioning gay marriage, he wrote numerous letters that were overtly hostile to gays. Oh, dear ... that does change the complexion of the story, doesn't it?

As I've suggested more than once before, if you're reading a Blogging Tory post, just assume they're lying about something. It saves time, and you're almost always justified.

YEESH. As Dave points out in the comments, Kempling really is a complete lunatic.

I'm disgusted with the dishonesty of people touting that protection of religious freedom is warranted, when it has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of religion. This legislation has one purpose: to allow bigots to bypass anti-discrimination and human rights legislation to degrade gay people in public. It is not now, and never has been about marriage, it is about how hostile the wingnuts feel towards gays. Let's at least admit that.

Of course there's a lot more to Chris Kempling than that. Note this website.
