You keep using that phrase "personal responsibility" ...

Hang on, I can barely keep up, dammit! No sooner had Republican Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio confessed to being an unethical, felonious hack (although, technically, the charges were "conspiracy" and "making false statements" but I think my wording is, you know, punchier) than the next GOP douchebag is going under the microscope:

FBI investigates Rep. Curt Weldon

The Justice Department is investigating whether Republican Rep. Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania traded his political influence for lucrative lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, according to sources with direct knowledge of the inquiry.

But let's not get distracted here. What's amusing is the subtext. Remember serial horndog Mark Foley, who tried to shift the blame elsewhere?

Foley, 52, checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation center over the weekend, his attorney said Monday. In a statement, Foley said: "I strongly believe that I'm an alcoholic and have accepted the need for immediate treatment for alcoholism and other behavioral problems."

And, hey, if it worked for Foley ...

Ney Already in Detox, Lawyers Say

According to lawyers for Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH), who has admitted to a slew of corrupt activities while in office, the congressman has already entered an alcohol rehabilitation facility.

Gee, I just don't understand why these guys can't, you know, just say "no" to alcoholism. It worked so well for drugs.

OOOOOH ... BONUS: As TPM points out, Ney seems to have hisself one clever lawyer.

Ney also turned state's evidence, remember, so there may well be more implicated yet.
Anyone got any stats on the relative efficacy of discovering Jesus in prison, as opposed to going into rehab?

As Wanda Sykes says in this clip - Foley is giving alcoholism a bad name....
