You'd think the "pirates" might have selected a better target in this latest instance than a container ship bringing food aid to the country.

It might not have been such a bad target, Red. Food aid more often than not does not reach those who need it most, particularly in regions with corrupt regimes such as the Horn of Africa.

Very interesting stuff. I've heard so many stories about piracy in that area, but this is the first I've seen that told this side of it.

My only quibble is laying all the blame on "the West". Indian and Thai fishing boats have also been exploiting unprotected Somali fishing stocks--that's why the Indian navy got involved in a shootout with the pirates about 2 months ago. The new economic powers aren't going to hesitate to play by the rules of the old.

Otherwise, good article that squares with alternative news sources I've read elsewhere.
