Cuts to the CBC can't come soon enough for me.

Shorter Rex Murphy: "Should the fact that the RCMP are a bunch of lying, perjurious scumbags negatively affect our opinion of them? The lines are open."

Rex is a sui generis, that's for sure. But answer me this -- who besides the CBC would have followed the video-versus-eyewitness story, if not they?

The cuts to the CBC, coupled with the recent uncharacteristic embedding of rightwhingers into their regular programming, has further crippled the MotherCorp, but then government has been cutting their resources since I first came to Canada -- and that was before disco. They still have the chops, when not being forcibly advised by the Harperites and other parties unfamiliar with the meaning of "arms length."

It was a good show, actually, and I say this as a person who stopped listening to CCC when Rex took over. And, in fairness, I think his own sympathies are more aligned with ours on this issue.

And Terry Malewski was worth tuning in for all on his own.

Sorry, Dawg, but Rex lost me when some nutbar caller yapped on, "Sure, it looked like he only had a stapler, but he might have had something else they couldn't see," to which Rex replied, "Thank you, caller, you've made some excellent points," when he should have said, "I'm sorry, caller, but have you started huffing glue again?"

Rex was far too accommodating to really, really stupid points of view.

Rex is ALWAYS too accommodating to really, really stupid points of view. It's getting so that I have to turn my radio off Sunday evenings. Either that, or risk throwing things at it when he tells some my-toothbrush-is-telling-me-to-kill-Wynona-Rider caller that they are making some excellent points.

Arggh.

Well, I did think that CCC was supposed to be more of an opinion census than a commentary show. On the other hand, I don't listen to it anymore either, after catching myself yelling at the radio a few too many times when it's on. It's like they let to stupidest portion of the country talk first... and never cut them off efficiently. It is simultaneously boring, frustrating, and annoying. Not sure how much of that is Rex, because I'm not old enough to have heard it before he hosted...
