Take me now, Lord:
Bill Nye "The Science Guy" was booed in Waco, Texas for suggesting the Moon did not generate its own light, but reflected light from the sun.
Trouble started when the children's entertainer brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars," and pointed out that the lesser light was actually a reflector.
At this point, several people in the audience stormed out, including woman with three small children who shouted, "We believe in God!" and left.
The Rapture can't come soon enough for me. Seriously.

FFS! That makes me furious. That moron passes it on to her kids, she may vote..damn! It's bad enough we have to try and keep some sort of sanity alive in the face of greedy politicians and corporate assholes, but we have the idiot voices and votes of cretins like her to deal with as well.
How do idiots like that manage to breed?
*bangs head on desk repeatedly*
"How do idiots like that manage to breed?"
Beer (and not the good stuff)...
Idjits like her are insufferably proud of their ability to breed; according to the dictates of their fundamentalist religious beliefs it's the only thing that elevates them from their peers, rutting hogs.
Oh. Wait.
I suppose a lunar eclipse is caused by that god changing the batteries on his night light.
HAHAHhahahaghaha, uh, heh. Good one.
In the Genesis account, 1:3, God said "let there be light", three days before the sun and moon were created.
So there already was light, and in fact usually it is said "God is Light".
Therefore, the sun and moon are both "reflectors" based on the Genesis account.
However, God wants us to have dominion over the earth, and to build good works. In order to do that, in order to understand the world and to be able to make things that work, we need to create models of reality.
By necessity, these models may differ from the scriptural accounts without being sacrilege, since they have a different purpose. Considering the sun as a luminous light source and the moon as a reflector explains a lot of things, such as how people can walk on the moon. It's not the case that one might as well be walking on the sun.
As usual, for the Waco wackos, it is never really about respecting faith. It is about some people commanding others to obey them based on unproven claims of their being favoured by God.
Wait...wait...this is deja vu all over again.
Aha, I'm not brain dead. This story was done back in 2006. Why is it making the rounds again now? Someone blew the dust off it?
"The Rapture can't come soon enough for me."
there's always the possibilty that it already has, that it came and passed unnoticed by the rejected, and that that lot got left behind with us.
