Who’s a good little suck-up?

I know, I know!!! Pick meeeeeee!!

Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier says a department training manual that lists the U.S. and Guantanamo Bay as sites of possible torture does not convey the government's views or position.

In a statement, Bernier says he regrets the embarrassment caused by the public disclosure of the manual, adding that it contains a list that "wrongly" includes some of Canada's closet allies.

"I regret the embarrassment caused by the public disclosure of the manual used in the department's torture awareness training. It contains a list that wrongly includes some of our closest allies. I have directed that the manual be reviewed and rewritten. The manual is neither a policy document nor a statement of policy. As such, it does not convey the Government's views or positions," the statement said.

Bernier then went on to say “Torture? Like any good little foot soldier in the Harper CPoC, I luuuuurrvvvv torture!”

We. Are. Doomed.

That's it. These monsters have got to go. When our Government is apologising for statements that acknowledge torture, it's lost all moral authority.

The Americans and the Israelis don't have of problem discussing their own issues about torture and the treatment of prisoners, but apparently, when Canadians do it, it's unseemly?

Fuck you, Maxime Bernier, you fucking traitor.

At first I found this kind of confusing. I mean, how can they be included 'wrongly' when it's common knowledge that the US are in fact torturing people? Then I realized I was misunderstanding his use of the word 'wrongly'. He doesn't mean that it's wrong because they aren't torturing people. He means it's wrong to let the truth get in the way of conservative party rhetoric.

What else would you expect from a government whose leader accused Maher Arar as being a terrorist in the HoC just to score political points of the government of the day because they were trying to fight for his rights in the Syrian jail? I mean really, especially since it looks like this manual was a direct outgrowth of the Arar-O'Connor inquiry. It also speaks loudly that this government is more concerned with embarrassing the US government with the truth as it is than it is in supporting the clear majority of Canadians who think torture is wrong period. Got to love what this shows about the priorities of this government when push comes to shove, it is American conservative interests and "values" first, Canadians second.

... I have directed that the manual be reviewed and rewritten.

Denial matching with the devil.

Bernier "...regrets the embarrassment caused by the public disclosure of the manual..." so he's gonna have it "...reviewed and rewritten."

What really happened here is that he got caught napping, with his job only half done. Now he's running around yelling at the people who woke him up.

He's not the first. He won't be the last. Sleep deprivation is a job requirement with Harper's goon squad. That's why Harper always looks so freshly ironed by comparison.

I wonder if der kabinet members have ever heard of fragging?
