The entertainment value in being cruel.

Gather 'round, kids, 'cuz Uncle CC has a job for y'all. Regular readers will almost certainly know about our constant needling of Blogging Tory "Neo Conservative", whose main claim to fame is ... well, actually, it's not clear that he has just one claim.

There was his delightful pooh-poohing of Taser-related deaths, as well as his obvious amusement at a Toronto mother that had two of her children murdered. Yes, he's a real bucket of conservative compassion, that Neo. So here's the idea.

It's not at all clear why Blogging Tory co-founder Stephen Taylor insists on keeping around vile little retards like Neo (among others), so our job is to make Stephen's life as uncomfortable as possible. To that end, I propose that we not ignore Neo. Au contraire, I think it would be only appropriate that he get all the attention his infantile heart desires. But on our terms.

From now on, when Neo publishes something typically racist or homophobic or just plain stupid or breathtakingly loathsome, that should be pointed out. But rather than just referring to "Blogging Tory Neo Conservative," I think we should hang Neo around Stephen's neck by describing him as, say, "Blogging Tory political pundit and Stephen Taylor colleague Neo Conservative." Don't you think that would be so much more fun?

In a nutshell, I think it's time for BT co-founder Taylor to start taking responsibility for the despicable cretins that blog under his banner, and the best way to do that is to tie him directly, and by name, to each and every example of BT idiocy that ends up published there.

And, in the spirit of the Blogging Tories, you don't even need to do it honestly. Hell, if I decide to link to something particularly heinous over at Neo's place, I might even refer to him as Taylor's "co-blogger," or something equally exaggerated and misleading. After all, if bending the truth and twisting reality is good enough for Canada's conservatives, it's good enough for me.

So let's not avoid the oozing crapulence that is Blogging Tory "Neo Conservative." Instead, let us joyously celebrate the dumbfuckitude, and make sure Stephen Taylor shares in the credit of every word of it. Because when Blogging Tory "Neo Conservative" comes up with another gem, we don't want Stephen Taylor to miss out on his share of the glory.

Whoops, that would be "Neo Conservative's BT co-blogger Stephen Taylor." Damn. I almost forgot myself there.

I'm in. But then I'm always in where the Ass Monkey is concerned. Can we call him Blogging Tory political pundit Ass Monkey and Stephen Taylor colleague Neo Conservative? I'm quite partial to it, after all.

Yeah, you do. Or you're sinking to their level.

Acknowledging them at all involves sinking to their level...that being the level of Blogging Tory and Conservative Party of Canada pundit Stephen Taylor's blogging colleague Neocon of Halls of Macademia.

As amusing as it would be to inextricably link Taylor with the idiocy and hateful rhetoric of his BT minions, there’s a couple of problems with your cunning plan:

1) Taylor doesn’t care. If he couldn’t get up off his adipose derriere to disavow the endorsement by one of his flock of a “full-time Nazi” inciting the murder of homosexuals under the wholly disingenuous guise of religious free speech, then it seems unlikely much will rouse this singularly obtuse man from his indolent slumber. Except of course for possible doctoring of photos by those nefarious socialist provocateurs at the CBC — that of course brings the azure blood of any self-respecting Tory to a boil like nobody’s business!

2) If he were to rebuke every BT each time they made some hateful, bigoted, racist, homophobic, stunningly insensitive, or blindingly ignorant remark, he’d probably have to hire an assistant to handle the flow of e-mail.

3) Taylor can’t be expected to read every posting to monitor them for the above. Nobody would wish such a cruel punishment on anyone, being as it would be, a form of mental torture. And of course as “liberals” we don’t support torture of any kind, unlike our “conservative” friends who think it’s all good slapstick fun.

4) Taylor can’t be expected to “lean” on any of the BT fraternity because there’s always plausible deniability involved, for you see what we silly libs persistently fail to understand is that when a remark that’s hateful, bigoted, racist, etc., is made by a BT it’s just “a joke” and we simply “don’t get it” because we’re humourless elitists. Or something like that. Besides, they don’t swear, so anything goes. Call for the mass extermination of an entire country, or race of people, gleefully endorse torture, cheer on the bashing of immigrants, ridicule women as pigs… it’s all good “family friendly” fun, don’t you know?

And finally,

5) Did I mention that Taylor doesn’t care?

Stephen Taylor's blogging colleague

I don't have a problem with it phrased that way.

But RT's right. There may be entertainment value in this plan but I doubt it'll have any other effect. See reason #1. Or reason #5.

And I have to join RT and Pogge. Minus points 1 and 5. I don't like this guilt by association. It's plagued too much of the discourse going the other way. The more honest approach -- the one which maintains your moral high ground, is to attack the ideas -- or, at most, attack the people behind the ideas. Attacking bystanders is not constructive.

And, acknowledging my own interest in this: I am not responsible for every post made by every member of the Blogging Alliance of Non-Partisan Canadians.

Tried that on just one thread--40 comments later, neo never acknowledged his errors, but he sure had fun belittling everyone who disagreed with him.
So just give up?
Or do as CC posted?
I have no easy answer. Where neo is concerned, is much akin to "Head? Meet Brick Wall. Repeat ad nauseum."

Those aren't your only two choices. You can give up if you want, but there is a value of just holding your ground, sticking to the facts, and ignoring his attempts to drag you down into the mud with him. I mean, ultimately, you're not debating him. You're not going to change his mind, and that shouldn't be your goal. But any reasonable person who happens upon the debate, in any of its forms, will see you for the man of reason, and him for the idiot.
