How about a quick trip down memory lane?
[Canadian Prime Minister Stephen "Benito"] Harper has dropped a fair share of hints about antagonism – or at least ambivalence – in his attitudes toward the bureaucracy. There was, of course, his famous declaration toward the end of the election campaign in 2006 that Canadians didn't need to worry about a Conservative agenda because his government would be held in check by all the Liberal-appointed people on the Supreme Court, in the Senate and in the bureaucracy.
So ... how's that partisan restraint of an extreme right-wing ideology working out then? Ooooooh ... not so well. Who could possibly have seen that coming?
