The CC HQ Donald Rumsfeld office pool.

Given the growing "Throw Rummy from the Train" movement, how long until he steps down to "spend more time with his family" and so that he won't be "a distraction to the fine work being done by this administration" and, anyway, it's all part of those disgusting "political attacks of personal destruction?"

Place your bets.

AFTERSNARK: If the Dems had a particularly wicked sense of humour, what would be amusing is if they en masse announced their unqualified support for Rumsfeld. Everyone knows that if the Dems jump on the "Dump Rummy" bandwagon, they'll be attacked as grotesquely partisan and unfair and on and on.

So let them turn the tables. When any of them are asked about it, the Democrats should simply say, "The president appointed Secretary Rumsfeld and, if the president thinks he's doing a fine job, that's his call." Stay above the fray, and let Rumsfeld and Bush take down the military because of their egos, while the Dems keep their hands clean.

At times like this, "No comment" seems like the best approach.

Didn't he do that during the Nixon administration? Or was it the Reagan administration? So many Republicans, so little sense.

in the interests of spin, there are all manner of fun things the dems could say,

"sectretary rumsfeld is performing his duties exactly as we expected."

"our sources in the pentagon assure us that mister rumsfeld is doing a heck of a job."

"our current efforts in iraq are testimony to the secretary's leadership. we are not joining the call for his removal, he should be allowed to take full credit for his achievements."

few things are more damning than a compliment, just add backspin.
