Shorter BT Raphael Alexander:

Feminism is the cause of everything bad that has ever happened since men made the monumental mistake of giving women the vote.

And when I say something like this:

My article was written in good faith in an attempt not to gain recognition, but to engage in a dialogue about feminism.

I actually mean that I’m right, you’re wrong and things would be so much more civil if you just admitted it and then shut up.

Shoes, shoes, shoes. Just for Mike ... I mean Nicole, yup, that's it, Nicole.

LuLu: It would seem that Raphael's rejoinder to your argument is "shut up and crank out babies like you're supposed to":

"The result of the rise of feminism in western civilization has been a double-edged sword, affording Canadians the luxuries of an increase in income and wealth, at the expense of outsourcing population growth and rapid demographic shifts from the mainly European settlement population."

He truly is a Renaissance man ...

I am still fuming over this comment from him:

" Raphael Alexander said...
It's a shame Red Tory deleted his blogs [both]. He's an interesting character, but he appears to have gone off the deep end lately..."

don't get me started on his feminism bull crap.

LuLu said...

I think KEvron and I both kicked him to the curb for that one, Nicole.

Nicole said...

ok, then. But would it be too much to ask if you also gave him a kick to the nuts?......oops, sorry, it's the evil feminist in me talking! ;-)

RT and I were just discussing how “feminists” make pretty good villains in their warped view of the world.

LuLu said...

They need someone to blame for the so-called "decline" of civilization and women have always been a handy target in their narrow, white male minds.

And I'd gladly apply a kick to the nuts - have you seen the points on my shoes?

I missed that swipe at RT, what an asshole! RT was one of the most thoughtful writers in the Canadian political blogosphere I have ever encountered! There was a reason I gravitated to his blog so much, it was where I found some of the best and substantive discourse, discussion, and debates around. That RA dares to make such an unfounded assertion and pass it off as obvious "fact" is the last nail in the coffin of his credibility with me.

Nicole said...

Well I wasn't none too pleased when I saw it either.

I found it very callous and mean-spirited. Behind each avatar and name, we are all people..each and every one of us. To make that comment, when one doesn't know what's going on in RL...was just un-called for.

Scotian...you know how much RT liked his blogs and all of the thoughts and time and elequent writing that went into his blogs...and from commenters too. It took alot to make him delete and was a big step for him. I know he misses it alot too.

He needs some time...has some personal stuff to look after and needs to focus on getting healthy and I am sure that for the most part, people will respect that and wish him the best.

Lulu, I think you need to post another pick of the shoes.

I mean, for nicole's sake. Uhm, yeah, that's it....

I certainly do. I didn't even want to dignify RA's comment with a reaction.

Don't use me to get LuLu to post any fetish pics for you!!!

and I am sure she has great taste in shoes...but I'd prefer someone with at least size 11's...although if they have the right point.

I am more of a handbag type of girl...I have this killer 10 pound gucci bag that I recently bought in Vegas...I love it, but it's so dang heavy...my left hip started killing me and my DR thought it is due to the purse..like backpack syndrome....but you know......one swift kick to the nuts from LuLu and one good whallop from my handbag..it might knock some sense into these people...

I knew you would...and I am sure RT knows it too.

Ooooh purses ... I could talk about purses for hours.

While I'm more than capable of holding my own with the boys here, I really am the girliest of girly girls when it comes to shoes and purses.

I know exactly how RT feels on all of this, I was paying attention last year and it is not like he was hiding it. I do wish though he had not deleted his blog, I think it had a lot of useful reference material to it that could have been useful down the road. I wish he had simply closed the comments to prevent those from being abused and left the resource for the rest of us as he had initially said he intended, but after the abuse he has taken both in his offline reality and here in the online community I can understand how he got to this point. That does not change though my sense of loss at his absence and my hope and prayers that he will be able to recover sufficiently to come back into the fray down the road. I found him to be one of the best fighters against the encroaching endarkenment (to borrow a descriptor I like) and his absence will be sorely missed in that fight. I also am a bit frustrated because he was driven away by abusive tactics from the political right, which is why they use such tactics, and it always saddens me to see it work, especially in the case of someone as good as RT. I would probably be upset with RT for folding were I not aware of his medical/family circumstances, given that of course this was the right thing for him to do, no question.

That still does not take away that we in the Canadian progressive political blogosphere lost a powerful voice when he went dark, and for someone to try and claim it was RT that was the one being disconnected from reality at the end instead of his tormentors is truly offensive to me. I counted RT as a friend in the online community, something I rarely say of those I have not met in real life, so that really offends me to see RA post such a pos as that about one of the best political bloggers I have encountered to date, particularly for someone who was not a professional political writer/commentator.

LuLu said...

What Scotian said ... I'm glad that RT and I have connected via email and while I'm not nearly as familiar with his problems as you seem to be, I've sensed differences. My hope, which I've expressed to him, is that he gets all the peace he needs and then moves forward from there.

It doesn't change the very selfish fact that I wish he was still blogging and that I miss him terribly.

Me too, with respect to all of the praise and good wishes for RT.

I didn't want to dignify Raphael's remark with a response either, but at the same time I'm glad it didn't go unchallenged.

Red, if you're reading this, for every one of us backing you and wishing you the best, I'm sure there are many others who are silent but nodding in agreement. If you're not reading it because you need a break from even lurking, good for you.

Here's to you and your health, spiritual, emotional and physical.

Lulu, do you have a pic of those shoes with a fishnet-type stocking?

I'm just trying to get a sense of scale, you know, that sort of thing.

Black fishnet if possible.

Dr.Dawg said...

Hey! What about the boots?

LuLu said...

Crabgräss, fishnet another day ... and always black.

My good doctor, the boots'll have to wait until I find the damn camera cable which is lost in the black hole in my home office. But they are spectacular, if I do say so myself.

I've got Fergusrush calling me "Tootsie" and now you with "bub". Weird.

i like "bub". non-descript. not gender spedcific. "tootsie" is downright condescending.

The feminism stuff... yes quite fascinating that.

As for RT, I have no idea what led to his decline of interest in politics and blogging, and his little johnnytard act was most entertaining.

I hadn't realized my comment was mean-spirited. It was meant in to jest, as in "first the guy quite his blogs, then he creates johnnytard, then he deletes his blogs, what next?"

I like RT, and I always gave him a voice on my blog and I welcomed his comments. I hope he returns, and I wish him all the best. Any slight was entirely unintentional.

Next you know, Raph will want a vote! As long as she votes with hubby, and supper isn't late. You have to have four kids before you even ask, okay?

Monty Python "*Plop* Get that will ya?"

See nicole, see! She can really do some, ah, damage with those.

Thanks LuLu!

Raphael Alexander said...

Ah, to be vilified by the left. Yes, I truly am a horrible conservative misogynist, aren't I?

A misogynist who believes in:

1. Universal daycare
2. Income splitting
3. First trimester abortion
4. Same-sex marriage
5. Elimination of child poverty programs
6. Minimum wage increase in order to raise LICO for single mothers
7. Government subsidization for single mothers who work

etc etc etc

Prole said...

Hah! Hahahaha! RA, if you really believe in all that, I daresay you are a feminist. Um...you do mean programs to eliminate child poverty, not eliminating the programs that eliminate poverty, right?

Raphael Alexander said...

The former.

RA if you're going to make an argument against feminism you really shouldn't use the Middle East as a model for anything. The extreme conservatism in the Middle East hasn't helped them stave off any of the problems you blame on feminism. Higher crime rate because of feminism? Saudi Arabia's crime rate increased 320% between 1990-96 and was predicted to go up a further 136% in 2005. The poverty rate because of the wage gap.... 90% of Iran is under the poverty line, and the GDP per capita in Saudi Arabia declined from $15,000 in 1980 to $9,000 in 2003. As for divorce... the rate is 30% in Saudi Arabia, which is comparable to the divorce rate in the U.S. when it comes to first marriages (33% in the good ol' U.S. of A). Here are some of the reasons reported for divorce in conservative Saudi Arabia: "A man divorced his wife after he found out she'd owned a camera phone for two years. Another left her because she insisted on waiting for a flight at the airport that kept getting delayed instead of returning home -- as the husband had suggested."

As for the whole subject of falling birth rates... France currently has the highest birth rate in Europe and this coincided with longer maternity stays and job protection. Let's try that before we bring out the burkas.
