Right-wing rip-off hack of the day.

Uh oh ... someone might want to have a quiet chat with Sheila Wray Gregoire about her not-so-subtle pilfering of someone else's ideas.

Ms. Gregoire, May 2006 (all emphasis added):

A while ago I read a story about a man who was convicted of molesting a seven-year-old girl. At the sentencing, the judge, who was suitably outraged, accused the defendant of “ruining this girl’s life”. I appreciate the emotion. I’m not sure I agree with the stance.

This little girl is starting her life with huge strikes against her. She is going to have to fight hard to have healthy relationships, to form good attachments, even to feel good about herself. Her life will not be easy. But that is not the same thing as saying that it is ruined...

I would rather be told that my future is limitless and up to me, than to be told over and over again that my life is ruined and this isn’t fair. Wouldn’t you?

Crazy-Assed Racist Redneck, November 2005:

"Abuse Ruins Life Of Girl"

When are we going to demand that people stop declaring to young victims of sexually based crime that their lives are ruined before they begin?...

We tell small children that the crime is "not their fault" - but that their lives are ruined and childhoods at an end, placing before them the additional hurdle of self-fulfilling prophecy...

Elevating the victim of sex crime to special status as the ruined perpetual "survivor" may be as damaging a societal response - perhaps more so - than that of 50 years ago, when they were told to shut up and get on with their lives in silence.

Jesus ... how badly does your life have to suck to start stealing ideas from Kate McMillan?

Kinda gives a new insight into dear Kate's psychology and what may have caused it...

I'm glad I didn't read that rant of McMillan's - the utter lack of compassion and understanding for the impact of sexual abuse on its victims is astonishing.

She could do with perhaps learning just what price the victims of child molestation pay. Perhaps she should talk to Sheldon Kennedy before she passes further judgement on the topic.

It's a twisted way to make a point, but they do have a good point hidden away in there - it's true, we shouldn't be telling victims of rape that their lives have been ruined. We should be doing everything we can to help them recognize their potential despite their terrible experience.

Um ... folks? It wasn't the sentiment I was addressing, it was the plagiarism.
