Speaking of Ezra and the SCC ...

It was back here where I posted how much Ezra Levant's adventures in legalism cost him, and that's before his recent kicking to curb by the SCC, wherein he is now additionally responsible for the other parties' costs, as well as his own legal fees.

Anyone want to do the math?  Again, the numbers you see there are only the cost awards against Rebel News, and don't include Rebel's own legal fees.

Does any of that even matter, if Ezra can just pay all those costs and expenses from donations to The Democracy Fund? Is there anything that stops him from using that money for whatever he wants, including funding his own legal adventures?

Several commenters have noted in the past that the Rebel’s fundraising is like Scrooge McDuck’s vault, a bottomless pit into which money pours from multiple streams. It doesn’t matter what you THINK you’re donating to - fire relief for the people of Fort MacMurray, a lawsuit because the Menzoid picked the wrong cop to shove, a new laptop, a flight to London so Ezra can “comfort” his jailed buddy Tommy Robinson. Your contribution goes to the same account- “donations” - and the Rebel’s policy makes it clear the can spend it on pretty much anything they want.
I hope someday in the course of the Rebel’s various legal woes, some judge gets to ask Ezra HOW precisely they link donations to their intended recipient. It’s a “bait and switch” scam of the worst kind.
My favourite was a huge, long running fundraiser for legal costs incurred by “Chelsea”, a woman who claimed she had been raped by multiple Muslim immigrants, who were arrested and charged on her say-so. The police investigation provided her with CCTV and DNA evidence that her account was a lie from start to finish, at which point she asked that the Rebel and its correspondent at the time (Tommy Robinson) drop the story. However, Tommy cheerfully confirmed that Rebel donations had paid for a “nice holiday” for “Chelsea” and her mum to help them recover from their “ordeal”. I always wondered how the Rebel donors felt about their money being spent to reward a racist liar for attempting to ruin those men’s lives.
What am I saying? I’m sure they felt just fine.

Anon @ 8:27 AM: The only issue with your position is that, while Rebel News is probably covered to the extent that they can use donations for whatever the hell they want, the same cannot be said of donations through its fundraising arm The Democracy Fund, which is a registered CRA charity and is therefore bound to follow its mandate in order to be able to hand out charitable tax receipts.

Sadly, the CRA has not the slightest interest in looking into the sketchy money trail associated with TDF. I know; I've checked.

Yes, the introduction of TDF to the laundry cycle was quite a brilliant innovation. However, their vague "mandate" seems to have been sketched out on a paper napkin to enable them to route contributions and grants to anybody they want.
I assume the TDF's second goal, "promoting independent journalism", is the pipeline they use to funnel money back to the Rebel, TNC, and the other "independent" propagandists who promote them.
So far their detailed financial reports to CRA stop at 2021. I'm checking every week or so for their 2022 financials to be posted; that should be lots of fun.

Today Jeremy Mackenzie is accusing Levant of raising money for the Coutts Four then announcing he will not spend any of it on their legal expenses. Of course JM is not a trustworthy source.
It's possible Levant raised it and plans to spend it on the Coutts Three, Marco Van Huigenbos and two other idiots who were charged with mischief over $5000 for Coutts last fall and were not jailed (maybe Alex was in overnight when the charges were laid, I forget).
Marco himself said a year or more ago that he was administrating a GiveSendGo I think for the Coutts Four and giving money to their families. Since then he's been involved in the UCP leadership and with TBA as CFO and who knows what else. So watch him.

Methinks Ezra is playing a very dangerous game here, ratcheting up his attacks on some very unpleasant people, and by "unpleasant," I mean people who are violent and are quite happy to parade around their heavy firepower.

It might be safe for Ezra and the rest of the Ezrettes to perpetually demean and denigrate transgendered people, but Ezra is quite openly slapping around Nazis and white nationalists and, at some point, that has the potential to end badly for him.

I was just reading about US neo-Nazis infighting and this seems apropos:

“He's very weaselly about this,” he said. “This is the classic thing where they all want to be the most evil but none of them want to get in trouble.”
