If the irony of following a post about a half-assed-attempt-to-be-funny headline about a tragic death with a link to an item in which amusement is solicited for a published wish that someone you dislike be dead is lost on you, rest assured it isn't lost on all of us. What were you thinking?

Michael, take a pill and relax.

The posts were by two different people, just fyi.

Besides, The Onion is my most trusted source of news.

I see Michael's satire-impaired support group let out early today.

I know they were by two different people. And neither am I "satire-impaired", CC. In fact, I'm a big fan of The Onion. My point was -- and is -- if you're going to extol the humour in wishing someone dead, you've abrogated the right to slam someone else who plants a humourous title on an item related to someone dying. It's a classic case of "It's not funny when they do it; but it's hilarious when we do it", precisely the sort of thing you so often decry on this very site.

I'm always told that it doesn't matter what it actually is, it matters what the perception of it is...
Michaels point--on the surface--can be perceived to be right.
However, the perception is not reality--no one is "extol[ing] the humour in wishing someone dead"...
I don't wish anyone dead, and I find no humour in wishing people dead. I don't believe anyone else here wishes that, either.
The truth of the matter is like watching a movie when Ahnold, et al, are on teh screen and the KPM rises--no one really dies--it's a movie!
There may be some radicals out there who do want Beck dead, or Bush, or, for that matter, Bush, Cheney, et al. Those people are not here, or I wouldn't be here.
However, relishing in the real death of a mother shot in Toronto... well, there's the difference. It's what Patrick always fails to really understand--false equivalence. On the surface, the two blog posts would appear to contradict, or even appear to be hypocritical. However, some use tomatoes, some use high powered rifles.

Michael bubby, I posted a satirical clip from a favourite source of comedy and japes. Would it upset you to know that whilst doing so I had no idea of what had been posted immediately prior? I didn't read CC's post until after I had posted the clip from The Onion. Shockingly, I was able to differentiate between the two. Crazy eh? Know what else... when the car goes off the cliff in a movie and explodes in mid-air, the actor doesn't really die. Turns out there's a difference between reality and fiction. Sonamabitch, who knew?

False equivalence:

* Those on the right constantly promote the violent death of people they disagree with, sometimes simply killing them outright.

* Someone on the left posts a video satirically mocking the death of weepy loon Glenn Beck.

Yes, those two things are exactly the same.

Maybe Glenn Beck will get killed some other way! Here's hopin'!

Is he dead for real yet?!

Sooey, depends.

If he's crying then it's a no.

Maybe you need a disclaimer: No Becks were harmed in the making of this post.

Gosh, I hope Glenn Beck dies today. I need a good laugh.
