Shorter Blogging Tory "Raphael Alexander": "Have you heard about this Abousfian Abdelrazik situation? It's awful. Someone should do something about this!"
WHEN PEOPLE SHOULD SHUT THE HELL UP: An amusing comment on the piece above:
I have no information about this affair, but it seems to me that Mr. Abdelrazik is guilty of something.
No, no, no, too wordy -- let me tighten that up a bit:
"My admittedly appalling ignorance will not stop me from pontificating on this matter."
Yeah, that reads much better, wouldn't you say?

So says "Raphael": I’ve been muted on this case until now ....
Um ... fail.
New Conservatives all think like that - if you're in trouble with the government - when it's a New Conservative government - you must have done something bad. They're stupid.
LuLu:
Good Lord, I'd completely forgotten about Ruffles' rancid bigotry back then, where he took it upon himself to distinguish between fake "Canadians" and real Canadians, the possession of a Canadian passport in both cases notwithstanding.
And the sad part? I'll bet Ruffles truly believes he's being thoughtful and pundity and thinking deep thoughts, rather than being someone who just doesn't like foreigners.
I'll bet he has no clue.
My favourite sentence: Raphael's lordly benediction of James Bow:
"You and I seem to be on the same page here, and I approve of your comments in general."
Why, THANK you, sir, THANK you. Exit James Bow, bowing and tugging forlock in humble submission, basking in the light of Raphael's approval...
I hope Raphael doesn't find out about James' Chinese grandfather. That would make him a "Canadian."
Too late, Doc.
My, my ... "Raphael" certainly has left his bigoted mark all over the Intert00bz, mais oui?
Good grief, I had (mercifully) forgotten that thread. Well, we should all be grateful that Raphael "doesn’t have a problem" with James' "American" wife, because "at least she’s coming from a culture that is almost entirely identical to ours."
Do you suppose he actually sets out to parody himself, deliberately?
But... but... but Ruffles is all about the Scots/English heritage and claim on these lands and there's like a whole paragraph on the noble Alexander lineage on electricscotland.com. Seems some of the Alexanders were given land in Nova Scotia so they like totally own Canada, bitches. Well, except for these Alexanders:
"The popularity of Alexander as a baptismal name led to numerous lines forming in other areas, and affinity to the Clackmannanshire family should not be claimed on basis of name alone, but on evidence of one's ancestral territorial or genealogical origins. Many Alexanders may have origins other than Scotland."
Of course, being a Stewart and the son of an expatriate, immigrant family with a long British military tradition and direct ties to petty royalty, my clan warrants rather more than a paragraph. And being so much more Scottish and English and Irish than Raphael could ever be, he likely owes fealty to me as clearly, by the standards he reveres, I am his superior in every regard.
I know you probably think me incredibly naive. I hear where you're coming from, and I share some of the frustrations you have with certain members of the Blogging Tories.
However, the more people we can get on _both_ sides of the fence getting on Stephen Harper's case about Mr. Abdelrazik, the more likely it is that this government will finally do the right thing and bring the man home. So, with that in mind, I still appreciate and respect that some Conservatives are coming around to this, however late they are to the party.
You're not naive. You're nicer than most of us, that's your problem.
Happy Birthday, by the way!
Hmmmm ... I suppose my questionable Italian heritage cancels out the fact that my maternal grandfather could trace his lineage all the way back to the first Campbell.
Is he implying by: "I've been muted on this case until now" that he works a New Conservative MP?
James Bow opines:
"However, the more people we can get on _both_ sides of the fence getting on Stephen Harper's case about Mr. Abdelrazik, the more likely it is that this government will finally do the right thing and bring the man home. So, with that in mind, I still appreciate and respect that some Conservatives are coming around to this, however late they are to the party."
Normally, James, I'd agree with you, but not in this case. Personally, I'm fed up with Canada's wanks not just coming late to the party but having denigrated and insulted everyone who disagreed with them all this time.
And, finally, when they can't defend their overt racism, they don't even have the grace and class to apologize to everyone they've been offending all this time. Even worse, they proceed to write long and nuanced analysis of the situation as if they're somehow producing something of value, rather than deferring to someone like Dr. Dawg who's been all over this for months now.
Yes, James, it's nice if Canada's retarded wanks finally grow a brain and a conscience. But that doesn't apply to ignorant racists like "Raphael," for whom nothing they do at this point should even begin to redeem them.
If Raphael spends the next month apologizing profusely for his ignorant douchebaggery, then maybe we'll talk. But not before.
Until then, he can fuck off.
Not trying to be mute on this issues I wrote a letter to the local CanWest publication, needless to say it wasn't published, so I put it up anyway. Their correspondent Jackson seems to think like Raph with respect to defining citizenship, patriot etc. No funny names and anybody who isn't from the right doesn't possess those qualities by definition.
If Raphael spends the next month apologizing profusely for his ignorant douchebaggery...That'll never happen until whatever issue is at hand affects them personally. That's what defines these "conservatives;" the absence of empathy.
I wouldn't care so much if it weren't for the fact that they obstruct everything in the meantime and by the time it affects them personally, the damage is done and its too late.
They continue to be a danger to us all and I don't know what can be done, except, perhaps, to kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.
That's why CanWest must die.
Dear deluded Raph and his "real" Canadian entitlements.
Can my 14th-generation French-Canadian ass still be considered "real" Canadian? I do have a smidgen of The Celt in me, even though the Kirouacs are actually Breton, which also sort of makes them cheese-eating French surrender monkeys. (and don't you think there are far too many vowels in succession in the 'Kirouac' surname to be truly Canadian?)
Yes, I grapple daily with this question in anticipation of receiving Raph's validation of Canadianesness. Well, not, no t really, not at all.
Noting that he hasn't "“come around” on this position, but rather taken a more patient and open position based on the facts."
Raph bases positions on "facts"?
