I can make a compelling case as long as I don't have to deal with that pesky evidence.

Over at the hilariously-misnamed "Clear Conservative Thought," Sean McAllister breaks ranks with the residents of Lower Wankerville and actually contemplates whether the Israeli military might be doing something, you know, uncool:

Phosphorus over Gaza?

I just saw a video on CNN that clearly shows a white explosion in the air and multiple white hot flaming trails coming down from it. Now, I’m not a munitions expert but what else could that be? I tried posting the video here but I am having problems with secuy rights. It is shown right after shark attack and is called Gaza explosions.

Fortunately, Sean's right-wing support group shows up to soothe his furrowed brow and make sure he doesn't continue to fret. Paul, the shrieking racist and wannabe soldier from "Celestial Junk," starts things off:

There are a number of munitions which are air-burst. Some are cluster munitions and others are just airburst. They all make an umbrella type smoketrail and glowing debris over the target. Phosphorus when airburst would make a deluge (shower) of bright white smoking trails and lots of bright white smoke remaining airborn and errupting from the ground … nothing coming from GAZA in the form of video looks like phosphorus, it’s airburst, but not phosphorus. I suspect cluster munitions.

"Umbrella type smoketrail?" OK, Paul, we'll keep that in mind. Commenter SDC then shows up to stroke Paul's little woody in agreement:

Exactly; some types of airburst munitions are fired while in the air to make them more effective, because they have a better angle for attacking targets, are more easily targeted, or are more difficult to find cover from. Even WP is not prohibited from use as a smoke agent, used to conceal troops or vehicles from moving up or during an attack.

The remaining commenters rush to Sean's side to allay any concerns he might have about possible war crimes and that sort of thing. Besides, the photographic evidence is fairly unambiguous:

Um ... correct me if I'm wrong, Paul, but that doesn't really look like an airburst "umbrella type smoketrail." And as for laying down a smoke cover, sadly, white phosphorus is kind of indiscriminate in what it's being used for:

I'm guessing we shouldn't worry too much about the Gazan victims of incendiary white phosphorus, though. It's not as if Israel is trying to inflict horrific burns on the citizens of Gaza; it's merely that they're succeeding, and that's what makes all the difference.

Join us tomorrow when Hamas is accused of using phosphorus-based ordnance and, suddenly, there's absolutely no excuse for it, those fucking war criminals.

i think it is adorable that in denying the use of wp as an illegal offensive weapon, the dolts slough it off as likely cluster bombs or some such other illegal offensive weapon.

Well, our government supports Israel because it IS supposed to be more like us. Sure, it's a comedown realizing who WE are, but I guess we had to find out sometime.
