And then there’s Big Daddy.
The recent election of a Bloc Quebecois MP may have cost the Quebec town of Trois-Rivieres a $2-million federal subsidy for its 375th anniversary celebrations, Trois-Rivieres Le Nouvelliste has reported.
[…]
On a campaign stop in Trois-Rivieres during the elections, Mr. Harper told Le Nouvelliste that the grant money had already been allocated and that he “was looking forward to working with a Conservative MP.” Mr. Durand had also promised to get the $2-million subsidy if elected.
Trois-Rivieres Mayor Yves Levesque is now accusing the Harper government of being partisan. “So because we voted for the wrong side, because the population voted for the Bloc Quebecois, we won't receive anything for four years,” Mr. Levesque told Radio-Canada. “Tell us that and we'll stop paying taxes.”
Leadership! Accountability! Fuck you!

I'm old enough to remember Quebec under the National Union party. It was a joke in the family that you could tell the municipalities that had had the cheek to vote Liberal in provincial elections--that was when the roads suddenly turned to unpaved ones, or ones in serious need of repair.
Harper and Duplessis had much in common.
"Nice little riding you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it."
Why ARE we paying taxes? Parliament's prorogued, afterall.
If Parliament's prorogued shouldn't all the MP's be getting UIC?
No. Like most people they don't qualify.
..at the risk of spoiling the prevailing mood here at CC.. I just thought I'd pop in and wish you all the best for the coming year.. and even for the staunch atheists in the group, there can't be anything wrong with a reminder at least once a year that we should aspire to treating our neighbors with decency.
Here's hoping (dreaming?) that our politicians set aside their egos long enough to actually help those who are in need of help all around us this coming year!
Oh - and I donated $100 to the foodbank today - pay it forward y'all, even if it's just a dollar or a can of soup..
Shalom.
Kind of reminds me of the time Cretin closed Calgarys military base and shipped all personnel and equipment to Redmonton because they had Albertas only Librano MP.
We got over though, you will too!
Shorter GrantK1: But, but, but ... the Liebrulz!1!1!!11!!

Yep, Dawg. I've been making that comparison all along.
Harper and Duplessis
Yep, that's what I thought too.
completely off topic and to a certain degree its blogwhoring but there are early christmas presents to be had
Ummm... GrantK9? That sort of partisan tactic is not, I repeat - not, going to help Dear Leader win his precioussssssss majority via gaining more seats in Quebec.
That sort of tactic is more likely to elicit a big extended middle finger from the Quebec electorate and drive more voters to the Bloc.
And, of course, Dear Leader is such a 'master strategist', non?
