Yesterday's statement are ... uh ... inoperative.

It seems like just yesterday:

Bush denies preparing attack against Iran

George W. Bush on Friday sought to deny widespread rumours his administration was preparing some kind of military action against Iran. Mr Bush confirmed a report in Friday’s Washington Post that he had authorised US troops to shoot and kill Iranian operatives in Iraq, but denied this was a prelude to stronger action.

What a difference a month makes:

Israel seeks all clear for Iran air strike

Israel is negotiating with the United States for permission to fly over Iraq as part of a plan to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

To conduct surgical air strikes against Iran's nuclear programme, Israeli war planes would need to fly across Iraq. But to do so the Israeli military authorities in Tel Aviv need permission from the Pentagon.

Don't you just love semantics?

Interesting. I would have figured they'd need permission to fly across Iraq from the Iraqi government.

If the Israelis drop the bombs, wouldn't it give Iran a justifiable reason for a retaliatory strike in the future?
They would no doubt have China and Russia on their side with the UN Security Council.
Defence against aggression inside your own borders is one of the few reasons the UN allows an armed response.

In an action like this the US would be up to their earballs in complicity.
From supplying the smart bombs to riding shotgun in stealth fighters providing laser targeting and suppression of Iran's AA defenses.
Think of Israel as being a Mid-East UPS.

If the US allows a stunt like this to take place, I could see Iran receiving major armament upgrading through the backdoor.
The big players in that hemisphere must love watching the US just keep digging themselves in deeper.

As has been noted many times before, Israel apparently doesn't remember the dire consequences it suffered the last time it got too close to the Empirium.
