No, that’s not really his name.

Shorter "Raphael Alexander": Far be it from me to criticize anyone but why do gay people have to act so ... gay?

And furthermore ... Take the time to read through the comments, darlings -- commenter Peter absolutely schools "Raphael" and his merry band of mouthbreathers. Unfortunately, it appears to be a case of casting pearls before swine.

In other news Ralphie thinks that we should all wear red t-shirts and have yellow ribbons on government vehicles....

The disingenuous nature of the argument is quite amusing. It’s all so hopelessly muddled and completely inchoate that it’s almost impossible not to arrive at the conclusion that there’s a moral subtext that “dare not speak its name” (to misappropriate Wilde’s infamous phrase). It’s also somewhat interesting to observe the use of code words appropriated from the Christian right (“the lifestyle on display” and so on) that awkwardly conflict with obligatory tripe peremptorily disclaiming any kind of homophobia (“I had no objection to gay marriage from the very outset” read: ”some of my best friends are Jewish, but…”)…

As usual with “Raphael Alexander” it’s just another futile outpouring of verbiage significant of little more than the author’s pretentious intellectual vanity.

Wow, Peter needs to give seminars on "schooling".. that was awesome.

I do have to disagree with Peter on one point.

"I include Raphael’s arguments BTW. The original post was very poorly researched and contained factual errors…not his usual style at all."

Really? Poor research and factual errors aren't part of "Raph's" style?

Raphael (not his real name) makes Barbara Kay look like a fucking genius... You think they let him write in the National Post for that purpose?

Woah, I hadn't read a little further down. Quoth the "Raph", "There are homosexuals who are every bit like any other Canadian..."

What is with this stiffy he keeps getting about deciding who and who isn't really a Canadian, anyway?

And the whole concept that gays shouldn't identify themselves as gay is a Bad Thing, Mm'kay, is reprehensible. Back in the closet, you fags! Stop taking pride in your attractions, it's distracting me from ogling the SUN girl!

(also, my last wv was "dionon", which I find hilarious)

What always amuses me about these foolish rants is that year in, year out, the Pride parade is the single largest gathering of heterosexuals in Toronto. Most of the spectators and yes, most of the people in the parade.

Maybe THAT's what really bugs them. It's not all those nasty homos flaunting it. It's all those heteros out there showing they don't give a damn about people's sexuality, they just like a good party.

There's generally precious little value in "schooling" any of these idiots since you can make the most rigourous, meticulous and logical argument, only to have it refuted wth, "HAHAHA! Boy, you lefties sure are easy to annoy, HAHAHA, bunch of stupid leftards!"

I give you Exhibit A.

Toronto has made a conscious commitment to brand itself as a gay-friendly city and tourist destination. The grants and contributions events like the Pride celebration receive from various levels of government are an excellent investment.

If Pride generates $80 million in revenue, that means it generates $4 million in GST. All in all, the Conservatives are getting an excellent return on their investment, especially as they manage to do without in any way appearing gracious or welcoming.

Can anyone here tell me what damage to a child is likely if s/he observes a naked man (or woman)?

Do they grow horns, become psychopathic, act in porn movies, become paedophiles,...?

This has become a tradition with the wingnuts. Every year...Gay Pride, two nudes, prissy scolding and shrieking. Two days later, they move on.

Peter is exactly the kind of conservative that should be resident in the political blogging sphere - reasoned and open to counter-debate.

And more than willing to lay a smackdown on someone else, on his own side or otherwise, who uses underhanded or disingenuous tactics.

Cripes, he's still digging over there, trying to defend things he's already admitted he was wrong on! This is really astounding. I know he's a twat and all, but this is getting a bit beyond even his normal stupidity.
