It's because we're different, that's why.

I'll have more to say about this later but, given how Canada's Wingnut-o-sphere attacks someone when they're down, can you just imagine the fun we could have with "Right Girl" Wendy Sullivan?

Don't do it. Don't even think about it. You're better than that.

Now that this has been brought to my attention I have decided to absolutely nothing but leave this comment.

Why should i do anything else?

WV="pressic" ... which made me think "depressed and sick."

..CC, if you really thought that taking shots at someone when they're down wasn't "sport", you wouldn't have posted this today..

..YOU are better than that.. as all you're going is encouraging more right-side assinine bashing of Polly.. which I'm sure she doesn't need right now.

CC said...

Quite so, roblaw, because when the Right-o-sphere is savagely demeaning and insulting someone slightly down on their luck, the proper response from our side is to ignore it and hope it goes away.

After all, that approach has worked so well in the past, hasn't it?

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

..is Polly.. or for that matter Wendy a "side"?

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

..I like your initial thought..which is taking the high road. Here's a right-guy, saying, go ahead an re-watch the John Lennon clip below..

"All we are saying.."

Well, roblaw, one of these women is being attacked by a guy whose site's URL is "No-libs.com", and it isn't the self-identified right-winger. Is that a coincidence in your mind?

(I'd note, however, that RightGirl was among the few to defend Polly in Richard's little swamp, so she at least has a shred of human decency. Richard, on the other hand...)

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

..M@.. I'm not defending Richard.. and personally, I don't see how anyone would hope to send any message to anyone who isn't already somewhat of a right-wing zealot by calling a site "No-Libs".. but, that being said.. it's kind of like my post regarding the Democratic Governor of Illinois.. no "side" has a monopoly on stupid or greed.. or, in this case, ignorant hyperbole.

..and the point isn't that you should agree with me or visa versa - it's that there's something to be said for taking the high road. Particularly where your whole point is, well, just that. If your opinion is, truly, that the right side of the spectrum is callous and insensitive.. you don't make your point stronger by, sorta saying, "let's do the same"..

Just saying..

On the balance of evidence, it's obvious that the Right surely does have a monopoly stupidity and ignorant hyperbole. I'm not sure about greed, though.

Right Girl should have realised something long ago...be nice to the people you meet on the way up, because you'll be meeting them on the way down.

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

Well, Ti-Guy, we'll agree to disagree on the hyperbole, but you last point is well taken, and I tell me kids quite often.. "you're never going to be hurt by treating another person with decency."

Ti-Guy said...

I never agree to disagree on matters of science. And it's way beyond obvious that the Right is extremely unconcerned with intellectual rigour or accuracy of thought and expression and seems to not even understand the concept of evidence.

And I'm not really talking about the online mouth breathers here. I'm thinking of the public representatives of elite right wing discourse.

What really has bugged me most is the tendency to establish false equivalences and suggest that everyone's the same and everyone's just as bad. That is clearly not true.

So, let us have no more of that.

well she could pawn a few guns to pay for the meds, and WTF is this shit about her ex's only role in life was to take care of her? Can anyone tell me why I should feel sorry for RG other than the obivious "she's a person and she's hurting" --- because given her track record that might not be enough in her case.

Frank Frink said...

Rev. I think her assessment of her ex-hubby is probably spot on. Remember her 'Mark Steyn is in my Ovaries' post? (And how I wish my eyes had never seen it).

wv = "ourful". Might be the Cornish pronunciation of 'awful'?

Ti-Guy said...

She should get counselling on top of the meds. Someone needs to tell her to get off the Internet and maybe go volunteer at a food bank or something.

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

LOL.. Ti-Guy, you're nothing if not consistent.. but, hey, if we're going to talk about science .. here's a scientific fact..

Out of the top ten most murderous regimes in this century, five were Communist, according to the ranking provided by R.J. Rummel in his Death By Government (Communist regimes indicated in bold):

Soviet Union
Communist China
Nazi Germany
Nationalist China
Imperial Japan
Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge
Turkey under the Young Turks
Communist Vietnam
Communist Poland
Pakistan under Yahya Khan

Ok.. so at least equal barbarism from the left.. ignoring the reality that the TOP TWO are miles ahead of the rest.. but, to comment further, Nazi Germany started out as the National Socialist Party.. and only later developed from a party of "progressive reform" to a fascist regime..

..arguably, the closest one might come to describing any of these regimes as "right wing" would be Nationalist China under the Kuomintang lead by Chiang Kai-shek - who took a very militaristic and burtal approach to "defending" China from communists within.. ultimately, losing that battle.. and allowing Communist China to reach #2 on the charts..

So... long story short, if we're going to be scientific, it would be fair to say that left-oriented governments in the 20th century have shown that, once in power, "concern for our fellow man" will likely transalte into "concern for MY people" and extreme prejudice to anyone who opposes us..

Which.. I guess, leads to the first point.. the dehuminization, or, if that's too strong, the stereotyping of one group or another is a dangerous thing that has an extreme downside.. and not much upside.

..just saying..

Ti-Guy said...

Man, that was pathetic, Roblaw. The totalitarianism of those regimes makes any discussion of right and left meaningless and cannot be used to support the thesis I'm advancing.

I'm thinking of all the right wing blowhards who are products of and paritipate in our culture's democratic traditions and systems of Western thought.

The thing you seem to be avoiding is that the Right's extremists are fairly mainstream, while the Left's extremists are completely marginalised and invisible, for the most part.

Once again, I have to insist that we have no more of this unedifying and time-wasting sophistry.

wv: dentside. A timely reminder for all to not neglect dental hygiene. Thank you, Google!

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

Oh.. Ti-guy.. now you're "insisting" that I not express myself.. good to know free thought and expression is a priority for YOU (note: not tarring the left as a whole with a characterization reserved for only one individual who, well, doesn't get it) well, to all here, sorry for wasting time suggesting that it's possible to make a point without making extreme generalizations and, *gasp*, suggesting that we do not hurt ourselves by being decent to those around us.. even when they don't share our opinions.

Have a good day!!

There is a certain irony in this post for me, I remember her lambasting things like the Canadian Healthcare System repeatedly on the Shotgun in years gone by and now it looks like the "dream" of the "Free Market US" turned out to be.... Well, not a dream.

I admit, there is a hefty dose of Schadenfreude involved on my end right now because of this even though this isn't nice. But hey, she got what she wanted and was utterly aggressive against anybody who didn't agree with her on these issues.

Now, if all the other ones in the "me me me" crowd would only get their dreams fullfilled and get to live the life they consider "superior", maybe the world would become a better place.

Ti-Guy said...

Oh, that's never been a priority with me. In an individualistic, sollipstic society where everyone is commanded to share every foolish thought that's rattling around in their heads, being authoritarian about accuracy, proper logic, reason and credible evidence strikes me as far more critical and downright benevolent.

Don't get too hysterical. No one here's stopping you from commenting, after all.

I'm just pretending to be pompous and arrogant, anyway. The "let's have no more of that" line is a favourite bit of Gore Vidal's.

I've been thinking about this alot in the last few days. (Before Right-Girl started blegging)...

With the diabetes, arthritis and psoriasis that I am dealing with -- if I was still in the U.S - I'd probably be dead.

I could not get health insurance coverage when I was living in Florida. It was a nightmare.

I'm a libertarian, and so I have to admit to feeling some hypocricy on my own part...

I sort of feel sorry for Right-Girl...sort of. But then I remember what a nasty piece of work she has been in the past.

Maybe the solution for her - for her own health and safety would be to sell her guns and use he money to move back to Canada.

At least that way she would restore a modicum of dignity.

Robert G. Harvie, Q.C. said...

..lol.. Gore Vidal? I guess, if you're going to lien on a liberal source for inspiration, it might as well be an intelligent, talented source..

..my style is more Hunter Thompson, an amorphous political view based upon hatred of the stupid and the blind..

But, then again, "maybe this is all pure gibberish—a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll." HST

There would have been a political leader I could get behind..

Indeed.

..uh.. "lean" on not "lien" on.. the law is ruining my mind..

What the fuck does that have to do with present day N.A. media and bloggers?
Fuck your red herrings, which I might add, seems to be an unusually popular method of the right for avoiding anything remotely resembling logic.
Can't you folks (on the right) ever stick to the point?

I don't give a fuck if some libs or commies or beatniks do shite. Ever dolt in the world could be a hypocrit and an illogical moonscape, but that don't mean you aren't one either.

You can't make your ship float any higher by sinking someone elses. Never seen such a group of whining babies in my life. Fundies, neo-cons, PCes, you, get, the, picture.
