Today’s Blogging Tory Stupid

We’ve got a new contestant today, kids. Sara, who blogs at “Choice for Childcare”, is a prissy, finger-wagging scold who shamelessly steals this article from the Daily Mash so she can shit all over working moms everywhere.

MOTHERS who work are happier than those who stay at home because they can have liquid lunches and don't have to spend time with their kids, according to a new report.

A study by Glasgow Clyde University found that so-called 'stay-at-home mums' were not entirely happy with the daily prospect of unremitting, high-pitched wailing and a face full of vomit.

Meanwhile mothers who went back to work as soon as they possibly could reported high levels of satisfaction when it came to chatting about the X-Factor, 'poking' Facebook users and spending lunchtime immersed in a vat of Pinot Grigio.

Research chief Dr Henry Brubaker said: "Every woman has a different approach to motherhood, but we found that increasingly most women have exactly the same approach, which is to get the hell out of the house.

"Modern parenting means you can work, enjoy the company of your friends and have a skinful at lunchtime safe in the knowledge that the nursery will text you if something interesting happens."

Mandy Amble, 36, from Peterborough, said: "At first I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my child. But after six solid hours of that stinking lump shouting, 'Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!' I started to change my mind.

"Now I can pretend to work all day and enjoy a range of top class white wines without having to worry about being covered in piss and shit."

Sara, who just can't help herself, then jumps up on her wingnut soapbox and proceeds to give that selfish, child-hating bitch Mandy a proper talking to (emphasis all mine):

First of all if she knew how to parent properly her child wouldn't spend all day "bang bang bang" or being full of piss and shit. Either way this is her choice, and a study should not persuade anyone to make a decision one way or another only your child an [sic] do that.

Oooooooh. Snap!

But here’s the really funny part. I took a stroll through the Daily Mash’s web site and clicked on the “About” link to find:

The Daily Mash is a satirical news website which exposes the absurdities of modern life to rigorous scrutiny with "hilarious results" (citation needed here - ed). The site satirises the worlds of politics, media, culture and sport with spoof news stories, commentary and opinion (this means that it's all made-up and is not intended in any way whatsoever to be taken as factual - hello lawyers!).

Ooopsie. I'm sure never-wrong Sara will be printing a correction any time now. Yup ... any time.

Update: Still waiting ... I've even had time to fix the mistake I made (thanks to RT in comments).

This just can't get any better: Sara's on the front page of wankcentral Free Dominion.

Credit where credit is due: From Sara's Comments:

Ok it was just after 6 am on a friday morning, I was tired lol.

Ha. As I was writing my comment over there your link showed up. Sychronicity (sp?) or something like that.

I feel sort of sorry for Sara on this one. I've been duped from time to time when not paying attention.

p.s. You spelled her name wrong in the last paragraph. Common mistake. We all make them. ;)

Guess she flew off the handle so fast she didn't read the sidebar. Stupid bunt.

I know Sara and she may be many things, but prissy ain't one of them. ;-)

Ps. I am a working mom and she has never "shit" all over me...belched many times on the phone though!

Oh mannnn. This is almost as bad as the time Fred Phelps cited The Onion's "'98 Homosexual Recruitment Drive Nearing Goal" as proof of a secret gay agenda.

E in MD said...

This thing sounds like something the Onion would write.

I'm a working dad and the Pickle has puked on me a number of times. One time she caught a stomach bug and projectiled and covered at least 5 feet of distance. At first it was gross but whatcha gonna do it's not like she can help it. But she's never shit on me. I love my daughter and I am very involved in every aspect of her care. When I come home and she squeaks and comes running ( read: crawling at high speed ) over to the door to greet me I just melt.

When she needs changing I change her. When she needs feeding. I feed her. There's nothing I wouldn't do for her and I know a lot of nice hiding places for the all the pieces of the bodies of anyone who might hurt her.

But ya know what? I came to realize since her birth that I apparently have the patience of a saint, something I had no idea I had.

But even I need a break. I realize this whole thing is a parody, but when she's been up at 1am till 3am screaming for the last week ( she's teething ) some times you just want to pull a pillow over your head and let her wail. That's called human nature. But a decent parent will get up anyway and go see if they can fix what's wrong. That's what I do. That's what my wife does.

The fact that someone would stoop to attacking another (fictional) persons need for a break or to have a life outside of childrearing is ridiculous. Back in 'olden times' that she waxes poetic about you had grandparents to hand the kid off to when they drove you nuts. Now you can't even do that because Grandma and Grandpa are off skydiving or popping Viagra. ( Eww old people sex ).

So anyways, bottom line is the bitch can shut the fuck up. Not just because too stupid to realize she's attacking a parody. But because not everybody has the same idea of what a family is or how to raise a child. Unless she's walked a mile in somebody's shoes she's got no right to judge. Why doesn't she go bitch about all those people using the bible as an excuse to beat infants with rods.

Aaron — Classic! Sometimes we all need to step back and take a deep breath. Avoiding Jack Daniels in the middle of the day helps too. Or so I've been told. ;)

I think you're being just a tad harsh on Sara here. Yeah, she jumped the gun and got duped by a satire article, but she's hardly what I would call a prissy wingnut.

Just my 2¢

What e in md said - in spades. There's no way I'm apologizing for calling someone on their finger-pointing.

Anyone who starts any sentence with "First of all if he/she knew how to parent properly" automatically loses all credibility, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sorry - last time I checked, a seeming overabundance of self-righteousness doesn't make anyone a parenting expert.

Red Tory said...

Okay, here’s a “Devil’s advocate” type proposition…. Although clearly a parody, isn’t it fair to say that the reason it’s amusing is that there’s an element of truth to the matter insofar as there being a certain number of feckless parents around with not dissimilar attitudes to those expressed in the article? Granted of course they would most likely never be so completely brazen about expressing such opinions or being so nakedly cavalier about their indifferent attitudes, but the very fact we find it amusing is because it touches on some essential “truthiness” about the situation and therefore Sara’s outrage, while haplessly misdirected in this particular instance against a fictional target that she inadvertently mistook for the real thing, may not be wholly illegitimate.

(And yes, I missed my calling as a lawyer.)

Not sure to whom you were addressing, but I wasn't asking you to apologize to anyone.

I was just pointing out that, while she can be self-righteous and shrill and incredibly wrong, Sara's hardly the kind of rabid BTer that usually receives the "Stupid Blogging Tory" label. That's all.

Also, I only made my comment after I saw your update where you repeated your call on her for an update. My guess is that she hasn't even seen any of the comments at her site or this post since she only blogs as a "hobby".

RT, I'm willing to agree with you ... up to a point. I don't dispute that there's a fuckload of questionable parents out there - Christ, you need a licence to own a pet but any fool can have a child.

But, and this is my point, there's also a fuckload of people who never miss a chance to impose their views on everyone else.

Sara goes out of her way to let everyone know that she's a stay-at-home. Well, hoo-fucking-ray for her. If I could stay home, trust me I would. But since I'm not just a working mom but a single, working mom, that's not gonna happen.

I've run into too many "Saras" who are just trying to be helpful ... When really, they're just trying to tell you in their own too-precious passive-agressive way that you're somehow less than they are in the motherhood department because you work.

So that's why I have no problem calling her on this. She's looking to score points with anyone who'll listen and it bit her on the ass.

I’ve had tussles with Sara in the past about different things but she’s not a bad egg and her cause (albeit tiresome and irrelevant to me, thankfully) isn’t altogether without merit.

I think you’re being overly harsh here. It would be more productive to engage her on the issue of income-splitting... Really. We got into it for a bit, but never seemed to bring the matter to a satisfactory resolution.

I realize there are some self-righteous twats who can be very judgemental about women who work. My wife has been on both sides of this issue (e.g., having been a "stay at home Mom" and a "working mother" — four kids... circumstances change), so I kind of know how that shakes out both ways.

Just a friendly bit of advice here: Sara may not be the best target of your anger. Also, when it comes to profanity, it's a fine line sometimes between when it's gratuitious and arfully employed for comical effect or emphasis.

Okay, that's my it of scolding for today. I'll go duck and cover now.

Hey, go whack Mr. Alexander over the head with a plank of nastiness. He presented an egregious target the other day with his asinine rant about the denizens of East Vancouver and his follow up remarks today. Kyle and I have both remarked on this with disgust.

Priorities!

Not to worry, Mr. Unambig is most definitely on my radar. That piece of dreck really can't go unremarked. I'm sharpening my rapier wit even as we speak ... so we should probably stop speaking ;-)

I'm also in the Sara is not a bad egg camp. Not to suggest she's beyond any sort of reproach, but I think her character is good.

I've been tempted a few times to buy a shirt from the Onion, "Area Man". I'm just not motivated enough.

I have my own idea for a T-shirt, though - "Damage reported to police"

Funny?

It's all about me.

RT, thank you for saying this. Whenever the nutters accuse you of not being a fair man, this is proof that you are. I know you and Sara have clashed, but she does have a good heart and I know that it means alot to her that you would point out these "points". It means alot to me too! :)

Sara definitely does not have an issue with working moms, she has an issue with those who do not believe that what stay at home parents do to be considered as "work". She also blogs with her heart and sometimes not her head if you know what I mean.

As for the swearing and name calling and misogynistic comments directed at her, well it would probably be pointless to say those that live in misogynistic glass house, shouldn't trade insults. The irony is not lost on me about pointing out the misogynistic fucktard the post below....

Sara screwed up...and she can live with it. I guess when you have little 3 kids, inlaws living with you and elderly parents that have been visiting from Nova Scotia since the middle of Novemeber, along with working minimum wage paying part-time evenings and weekends to make ends meet, you are entitled to fuck up.
She is definitely not a typical BT... if she was, me and her wouldn't be chums!! But I think you know that!
Once again Martin, thanks for your $0.02!

Crabby, you know she isn't a "bad egg"...just cause you are hanging with the "cool kids" and all...don't get too big for your britches!!! or maybe I should say bitches!!! :-P

Meh. Thing is, if the article had been real, she'd have had the same sanctimonious comments for it, and frankly, the article is only > < far from being written by any number of people I've talked to, and in all seriousness.

So yeah, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the attitude I saw there.

I am impressed she owned up to it being a mistake.

Rev.Paperboy said...

tired is one thing, thick as a plank is another. How the hell does anyone read the initial article and not realize it is very broad satire just from the tone of the writing. Jon Swift it is not.

Jay said...

Sara's really only on the BT blog because all the other aggregators she approached refused to allow her based on her views on daycare. If I had to pin any sort of political label on her which I don't think can be done exactly, she leans more towards the Green Party than any other. She's actually very nice, caring, sweet person. I met her over a year ago, and we have quite different views on many issues but I have never been demeaned or felt her to be scolding. She's always been receptive to discussion and other views. I think it was just a bad day on her part. She has a very strong opinion on daycares and related issues around parenting but how many BT's do you know would supportive and encourage a gay married couple (me and my hubby)to adopt a child?

10 points for acknowledging the mistake.

-10 points for attacking the person who pointed out the mistake.

Points are non-transferable and are carried to the next round of play.
